D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

we do complex math to walk yet we never know it, regardless we have too many cha casters so it is off the table simply to niche partition.
Nah. It's off the table because the Aberrant Mind is almost certainly the most played version of the psion in D&D history by a comfortable margin (both being in the most popular version of D&D and in something much closer to the core rather than a psionics specific splatbook, and being far the best version of the sorcerer in 5e) - and will only pull further ahead when it joins the PHB later this year. But this has to compete with the Aberrant Mind (and new GOOlock) and you don't compete with an official option by doing things the same way.

and you don't compete with an official option by doing things the same way.
EK, Bladesinger, Valor, Swords, Pact of the Blade, and probably at least one more "caster with a sword" option I'm forgetting, would beg to differ.

WotC is absolutely happy to "compete with an official option" by doing essentially the same things in nigh-indistinguishable ways.

And none of those do things the same way.

WotC isn't homebrewing. This is people at home.

The Aberrant Mind Sorcerer, the GOOlock, the Soulknife, and the Psi Warrior are official psionic options for the forseeable future.

That said TSR and WotC have historically been more than willing to sell shovelware with only very minor differences as long as people will buy it.

do you have a source to back up said speculations also why do people play something matters, champion fighter is common because it is free to use and easy for new players not because it is inherently the best option.

yeah and they never quite get it as sometimes you just have to make a whole class to do a concept right as once it works it works.
And this desire is only emphasised by Dex being the God-stat in 5e.
dex needs to be reduced as the god stat so things work better.

also you seem to have no issue with the idea of the mystic but seem to have hostility towards the psion I am lost as to why could you please elaborate?

I didn’t read the whole thread, but my approach to answer the question would be: as a DM, how many classes do I want to explain to a newcomer when they’re creating a new character?

So I’d rather we had the Big Four as basic classes, and then each of them branches out in other 4 at level 3 or something.

Plus unrestrained multiclassing for those that like to experiment with builds and veterans.
