It's Vajra Safahr of Waterdeep.

Could be, I just meant that the artist did not say who they were. For that matter, I have no idea who Vajra is since I'm not a big FR grognard.

If the staff is an Artifact and the spell is coming from said staff, it can circumvent the Beholder's anti-magic eye.

So for the front cover, we seem to have a Demilich (?), a Kraken, a Gelatinous Cube, a Beholder, an Ogre, a Displacer Beast, a Mimic, some bats that could be shapechanged Vampires (?), and some Hobgoblins.

I think it's a Flameskull, not a Demilich. The green flame is rather distinctive. But I could be wrong.

I had completely forgotten about the Flameskull's existence, but now looking at the images side by side it makes more sense that it is indeed a flameskull.
