D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

What evidence do you have that these are corner cases? Loaded statements where you claim the equivalents of one-offs or outliers without demonstrating such doesn't prove your point.
I think it's self-evident given the examples presented. I'd argue that if they're being presented as normal there needs to be evidence for that. Which was not presented.

See, I wouldn't necessarily assume that (though I have no plans to use Beyond). We already know that they designed these to be customizable (they already did two years ago!) and thst the designers consider the six abilities to be interchangeable...ao it wouldn't surprise me if Beyond highlighted it as an option, still.
It would be kind of weird if the Player's Handbook content in Beyond includes more options than the physical Player's Handbook. If anything, I'd be a bit annoyed if there were Beyond-exclusive Player's Handbook options that aren't in my hard copy of the book.

Custom Background is explained explicitly in the DMG, so it isn't more options, it's about presentation. A digital tool is a different beast than walking new players through without a tool doing the math for them.

Assuming there is no repeats, there will be 3-4 backgrounds that cover every 2 stats stats combo.
Lack of repeats is what causes concern when building more effective stat spreads when adding backgrounds. It's something I thing is worthy of caution. ;-)

^^^Basics of Common Sense Fallacy

The majority of players, in my experience, care much less about that small early bonus than they do about just making a character.

It's not self-evident outside of your personal perspective. It's a possibility, yes, but you're projecting your own opinion on to other people here.

^^^Basics of Common Sense Fallacy
You know someone doesn't have a rational argument when they say something like this. Especially when you're ignoring the issues with presenting these weird cases as normal.

You have presented absolutely no case that any of it is anything but a corner case. Plus you're essentially asking me to prove a negative. Whereas it should be easy to prove something is common.

Anyway, I'm going to be laughing when the real choices are here, and one of you guys defending them and claiming your players are god's perfect himbos non-min-maxers is like "Omg why does every Cleric always pick Guide and never Acolyte?! Why are players so dumb?!".

Mod Note:
Are you going to be laughing when you get removed from the discussion for insulting people?

Because, that's about to happen if you can't be bothered to treat folks with more respect than this.

One of the players in my game has a character who is blind because it fitted his concept. I'm never going to care what background they pick, as long as they are happy with it.
