I really hate corporations who pretend they have your best interest at heart (all of them) and it boggles my mind that people still go to bat for them. Have the last 40+ years taught no one that Corps are bad and only want as much of your money as they can get anyway they can get it? Corps are never ever ever your friend.

Again, not the same thing. You are not comparing apples to apples.

But I don't know why we (I) are (am) going done this rabbit hole - I just said I don't think it is "crappy" that you now have to have a Master Tier subscription to get early access. That is entirely subjective and my opinion only. It has nothing to do with logic arguments or timelines or the approach of Apophis.

I don't know the issue with VRGtR. What do you mean by Theros not being available - I got it years ago on Beyond.

There are fairly major mechanical elements from the three Magic: The Gathering sourcebooks, such as the Piety and Supernatural Gifts from the Theros book, that they never bothered to implement into the character sheet (and it's pretty clear they never will).

It's not $4.58 a month. It's a one time payment of $55. And it might surprise you that a lot of people don't have a spare $55 on any given month. At least not for things like digital books of a niche hobby.

Early access seems like a must for any content creator wanting to analyze the new books. I don't see the benefit for anyone else.

How long until we see subscription only content? I'd say a matter of time.

Sub only content already exists, but it’s stuff like Dice and characters sheet backdrops.

I'd guess they'd soft launch it with a one-shot, or special subclass or feat or whatever. There's no rule that everything they create has to see print. Given the way things are, it's kind of odd for them to print everything.

I get people being upset about subscriptions though. There's a clear reason--companies favor subscriptions because they can get more money from consumers that way. The corollary is that consumers end up paying more for subscription services. The shift from physical to subscription will result in a more expensive product.

There is no evidence that we have to subscribe to play. None. The books are top sellers in Amazon every release. You didn't even need to subscribe to use the digital service.

No, that is not true. It may be OK in a logic debate, but not in reality. It is possible that rule can be sensible and justified only under certain circumstances and just the opposite under others.

I am not going to "bat" for WOTC. They currently make a product I enjoy and use. The current hate on this feature is a bit unreasonable in my opinion. If they start adding VTT an increasing it to 10-15 per month etc, then I will not use it. If they take away player sharing, I will not use it. I am not going to get mad about early access. I doubt that this will affect many people unless they are patiently awaiting to immediately make new characters or start new campaigns.

During 4e, WOTC did not receive a dime from me for what I considered a garbage product.

WOTC is not my friend. I do not need them or their product. I enjoy it right now because I love D&D but I can happily move on again at any time.

They often get very justified hate and valid criticisms. I do not think this is one of the times they deserve it.

Ok - I just buy/read the books and articles. I don't use any of the other features of Beyond so I was unware of the lack of such implementation.
