I'm just calling it 5e. Or, just D&D. My group will know what I mean. Most of the general public will likely switch, especially since it will be the only version available going forward. If I need to distinguish, I'll likely just refer to the old version as 2014.

As time moves on, I think it will be easier to differentiate those that don't switch as opposed to those who do.

As you mention, over time it will likely become the default, but we still need a way until then to discuss it on the forums and I see a lot of confusion when trying to use "5e" to exclude the 2014-2023 books on a public forum, even if your group knows what you mean.

Fair. But I'll still pretty much think of it as '5e' and '2014 5e' if I need to reference it. Much like it's generally assumed people are using the Tasha options, and otherwise talk about pre-Tasha's.

Face it, outside of this board, it's unlikely to be an issue either way :)

Another vote for 5.2 here, to match the naming of the SRD 5.2. Referring to D&D (2014) with the equivalent naming convention, it would be version 5/5.1.

Where's the poll option for "Who gives a flying [censored]?" Seriously, have we not run this debate into the ground over the past ~2 years? Virtually every thread seems to get derailed by someone offhandedly using a specific moniker and then someone else objecting to it. It's happening right now over in the "Playstyle Changes from 5E to 5.5E?" thread, where the topic of discussion is supposed to be about the changes between 2014 and 2024, but almost immediately devolved into whether or not it should be called 5.5E.

Then isn't it a good idea to have a thread dedicated to it?
That way you can easily skip the debate your not interested in.
If the existence of this thread were to somehow prevent this debate from permeating other threads, then I would be wholeheartedly excited. But, alas, I highly doubt that will happen.
