Chad the alcoholic former frat guy? Yep.
Were you there?! Which player?

Across from you wearing the badge that said "Celebrim" - Edward the disgruntled software architect who continually regretted not bringing his stash.

That was the most fun game I had this year at Origins: best GM, best group of players. It was a pleasure to meet you and your group.

I didn't notice the badge. But it was a blast playing with you!

Not my experience with Dread - for me it was both hella fun and the Jenga-resolution mechanic was perfect for building the tension - but I have only played it with folks (not my regular groups) that I consider cream of the crop role-players and GMs. I am actually planning to run it for a Halloween one-shot this fall, but as others have said, it is not the kind of game I can imagine playing for more than one or two one-shots a year.

I'm sad that the game didn't click for you. All of the times that I've played it, even when the atmosphere was light, the background stress of the listing tower short circuited perfectly into fear for us. Not like heart pounding "I'm in the dark in an abandoned rotting warehouse and the perfect quiet has just been broken by the laughter of a freaking child" horror but 100% a "what is this unsettling, uneasy feeling that I'm feeling? Oh yeah, I'm afraid."

Do you think that the convention atmosphere might have had anything to do with it? Where were you playing?
