D&D (2024) Ranger 2024 is a bigger joke than Ranger 2014:

What the hell?
I never said that.

If you refer to the sage advice. That was not the thing I answered to.

I meant that hopefully the glossary will explicitely state how loud verbal components are.
sorry yeah i was responding to the sage advice in the message you quoted pre-edit/under the assumption that SA answer was what you wanted in the glossary.

properly stated volume/audible range of verbal components would be great (as would be precisely how noticeable somantic compenents are too, 'i subtly make the gestures' is the 'i whisper my spells' of somantic components)

The book doesn't need to say how loud verbal components are, because every DM can decide for themselves how loud Ranger casting (and all spellcasting) needs to be.

And if (general) you play at a table with a DM who says your Ranger spells are shouted and you don't like that... then you are free to tell your DM to go F-off and you find a new table with a more reasonable DM.

spellcasting was always in clear and strong voice.

And yes, 5E is not precise in this as it is not precise in many things, so if we default to 3.5e Perceptions(Listen) DC for spellcasting would by -10 or 0 if being generous.

maybe 5E24 will be more clear about those specifics.
They mentioned adding guidelines for how far away you can hear things.

Don't recall which video, or which book.

When you have to ask how loud is audible... yeah, what?
Audible to your target, audible to you?
What if you can hear subsonic? Is that enough?
And this is exactly the question the Sage Advice refuses to answer.

How I would rule: Counterspell has a range of 60 ft. Therefore the verbal components of a spell should be clearly discernible to someone with average human hearing at a distance of 60 ft. That's "back of the assembly hall" distance, so not quite a shout, but louder than an average speaking voice.

in chaos of combat where steel smashes on steel, everyone screams battle cries, fireballs blow up everywhere, that is shouting.

Ranger spells are meant to be audible.

You are supposed to cast them WELL before you engage.

Why are people waiting until they are right next to enemies.
