D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

Some new epic boons:

  • Boon of Spell Recall: Increase your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score by 1 to a maximum of 30, and whenever you cast a spell with a level 1-4 spell slot, roll a d4 and if the roll matches the spell level you don’t expend the spell slot.
--mechanically ok, though I still hate the language. Why can't it be a simple "roll a 4, get your spell back". Match the result to the level is just silly.

But we also recommend the Boon of Skill, which grants you proficiencies in all skills and gives you yet another Expertise
--for the skills monkeys, this is a damn cool feat, even if its not super mechanically strong, there will definately be people that would love this power.

, or the Boon of Speed, which lets you Disengage as a Bonus Action and adds 30 feet to your Speed.
--+30 speed, lets go!
I don't really like the boon of skill as it overwrites jack of all trades. So good that it is not the standard recommendation.

I also think the 1d4 roll is stupid. I really can't see why it is not a d20 roll and on 16+ you get your spell back. Or maybe even roll a d10 and you need to roll against 5+spell level (so you could even get a level 5 spell back if you are very lucky).

I see that the College of Capoeira is very popular.

still debate, is that the worse martial art or aikido?

e: Aikido is actually pretty much the ideal martial art, though.

If I understand correctly, the Bard gets roughly one new spell per level (albeit unevenly from 4 to 22).

At lower levels from the Bard spell lists, the Bard can swap one spell in addition to gaining a new spell.

Does this mean that at level 10 onward the Bard can both swap and gain spells from the other spell lists?

The Influence action in the playtest mentions setting a DC for charisma checks, but I’m assuming the DM could set the DC as the result of the opposed check, e.g. the opponent’s Insight check. If so, then Cutting Words can be used to subtract (ultimately) a d12 from their roll. So I believe a 17 lore bard (access to Wish) / 3 battle master fighter could make a CHA check with Expertise, subtracting a d12 from the opponent’s roll and adding a d12 from Peerless Skill, adding a d10 from Tactical Mind, adding a d8 from Commanding Presence (non-Deception CHA check) and adding a d6 from Superior Technique. Did I get that right? I never play fighters, so I’m a bit unsure on that stuff.

For College of Dance, I want to know how spell components work. I prefer all components are Somatic only.
Many dancers use implements (instruments, maracas, and castanets). And don't focuses replace the need for non-costly material components? They may also sing or hum while they dance if they don't have other accompaniment. Some spread glitter or other materials with a flourish.

But Mimes use objects of invisible force. Like Forcecage.

Yeah. Swapping a spell each level (11 levels), and learning a new spell each at each opportunity after level 10, they could have 18 (of 22) "non-Bard" spells (assuming the spell table progression is same as 2014).
