D&D (2024) Should 2014 Half Elves and Half Orcs be added to the 2025 SRD?

Just a thought, but given they are still legal & from a PHB, but not in the 2024 PHB, should they s

It is not underpowered. It grants darkvision. But it is not exactly an origin feat. It is a special one. Only for human and only for 1st level.
It's underpowered

60ft darkvision is worth 20% of a feat due to how ubiquitous it is and how poorly it is run.

If you choose it as your bonus feat for being a human, then it has to be as powerful as Magic Initiate.

Lets say, we disagree about the power level as we do with other things.

Just a reminder:

One skill (1/3 feat)
One language (5% maybe?)
Darkvision (20%-40% at least as powerful as a cantrip... or a permanent 2nd level spell...)
Resistance to sleep and charm. (1/3 feat)

Not the best, but also not the worst feat.

All the 1st level feat, or most atleast are really bad. They are half feats at best.
at 4th level, you better get +1 ASI if you want to take that feat later on.

IMHO, 1st level feats should have been more powerful.

Tough, Lucky and maybe Magic initiate if you pick very carefully are worth it.
Rest is waste of print.

by tasha's, darkvision is worth a skill proficiency.
Skilled as bad feat overall, is worth 3 darkvisions.
And I would never take skilled. Skill Expert sure, but Skilled is a waste.

In Lord of the Rings, are humans, elves and orcs all different species? Or are they the same species and can interbreed? I know Tolkien referred to all of them as different "races" rather than "species".
trying to insist on using the precise exact real-world scientific definition of 'species' in the fantasy elf game (and other relevant media) with magic and god-crafted beings is not i think, a useful endeavour and is ultimately a detriment to the experience of DnD, prioritising linguistic rigidity over genre/narrative applicability.

As much as I like those races, and have played those races (and have advocated for those races and given reasons why they should be used), I said no.

I am tired of it being brought up. Of it always being a point of contention for a select few. And, no matter what WotC does (heck they could come out with an entire book on half races) and people would still whine and complain in an unseemly matter. Some would critique and have valid points, but even those would be valid at their table and not a lot of others. It just seems easier to let it all go, this way there is no anger about the language used, the missing abilities, the human with funny hats, or, god forbid, the advantages in intelligence or charisma.

Yes. So going by that the half-elf package is about 1 background feat. Thanks for agreeing with me.
This is why I left half-elfs the free inspiration at the start of the day.

well, there are background feats and there are background feats.
Yes. And origin feats.
Did I forget origin feats?

So lets see what I did: I recreated the 2014 half-elf with 2024 rules without any problems just by making it a human only 1st level origin feat.

I realy don't know what your point is.
