With regard to the character sheet, it has a sizable box for "Backstory & Personality". This is the place to put Bond, Ideal, and so on in a more freeform way.

It's like the chart in Xanatar's.

Dragonlance Half Elves are human+elf
Eberron Half Elves are half elf+half elf

They could be separate species.

The Dragonlance one be more like the 5e 2014 PHB one where they get 2 skills proficiencies and something equal to an ASI.

The Eberron one be more like the 5e Dragonmark ones where they get 1d4 to 2 skills, a Cantrips, and spells.

i feel like i saw someone else mention (though i can't seem to locate the message, it may have been in another thread?) that getting no cross-species mechanics now is probably a better outcome to getting rushed bad ones, and it at least leaves the potential for doing decent ones later.
I wonder how many decent cross-species combos are going to be available from the 10 species that are currently in the 2024 PHB. As far as I can tell (and I could be wrong about the number), there are 45 cross-species combos here.

The stats of Khoravar and Elves are comparable. Meanwhile, some of the Khoravar culture backgrounds will emphasize Charisma, flavorfully appropriate origin feats and so on.
My preferred option would be giving them features which bring them even further away from humans and elves. Same with Jhor'guntaal.

Ironically half-orc no longer has much in common at all with 2024 orcs. Swapping out relentless endurance for something else on Jhor'guntaal makes them have not a single unique feature in common with the 2024 orcs. Bonus points if they get powerful build which orcs no longer have.

I hate Goliath´s Powerful built.

Against unarmed attack grapples it does absolutely nothing.

Neither do you get advantage on checks to resist grapples, not do you get advantage on ability checks to end the grapple condition.
Those do all seem like things a person with a powerful build would have. It's almost like WotC is fine with words meaning something different than you would expect them to with no explanation.

Well, I am surprised to find the half-race topic was settled in an entirely unpredictable way.

They don't exist in the PHB. Not "choose a parent" I mean the concept is entirely absent in all respects.

That side bar we all thought would be in there from the UA? Nope. No sidebar. No reference to the DMG. No reference to talking to your DM about it. There appears to be literally nothing mentioning you can even be a half-elf even in theory, for example.

Now that doesn't end the topic. There could well be something in the DMG. Or even the MM. But this has the feeling of "Let's punt on this controversial topic for now" perhaps as a last-minute decision.
I'm going to assume they saw the feedback to the sidebar but the project was so far along that designing a whole new system, play testing it, and getting the art/layout for it was not practical, not to mention all the consultants needed. I guess there wasn't the time or resources to make it into the Core.
