As I mentioned in the DMG thread advertising for the next product tends to come the week of or the week after the release of the current product as long as the gap between them is not massive.Did they do a big push for it in 2014? I was not really active then so I have no clue.

Judging by the 2014 DMG, maybe, maybe not. You probably want the magic items, but the rest of the book is extremely optional.The PHB was a “want” that gets you into the door and into WotCs ecosystem. The DMG is “required” by at least one player, so there’s less need to advertise for it - someone in the group has to buy it.
