D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

It is 198x.

You got the green light to do the Dungeons and Dragon movie.

There’s this series of books that’s really popular with the kids at that time called the Dragonlance trilogy…

Well it's Hollywood in the 80s so I start by doing a bunch of coke.

Then I guess phone it in and make something 30% Beastmaster 30% Krull and 20% Willow, and 20% Conan the Destroyer

There’s this series of books that’s really popular with the kids at that time called the Dragonlance trilogy…

There was also this thing called "Icewind Dale Trilogy" coming out shortly after Dragonlance, so you could do a movie set up the novel series

Well it's Hollywood in the 80s so I start by doing a bunch of coke.

Then I guess phone it in and make something 30% Beastmaster 30% Krull and 20% Willow, and 20% Conan the Destroyer

And don't forget putting lasers in somewhere.

Well, first off it would be a Hard R movie with a tag line of "this movie is not for kids" (not that this would matter in the '80s)

A Dragonlance Cinematic Universe...ohhh. Or a Forgotten Realms Cinematic universe. Denzel as Drizzit, Dolph as Wulfgar, Danny Devito as Breunnar, Warwick Davis as Regius , Sharon Stone as Cartti-Bree, Seven Seagul as Zakeferin, Chevy Chase as Arkell with EPIC piratical effects and stop motion animation and models the size of warehouses.

And I'd do the beyond crazy cameo of Gary Gygax, Bob Salavadore and Ed Greenwood playing dice in Ten Towns.

And a hard heavy metal sound track, with Weird Al doing an iconic custom song of "Forgot my Realms" "Where do my dice roll now?" and "It's D&D....Dinomight! D and D! Hey hey!"

Jim Henson special effects ala Yoda or Labyrinth movie. Throw in Indiana Jones melting face and cheap lightning blasts with the green glow and I would be all set. Maybe add chainmail bikinis and some goathead cultists.

A+ for getting in character!

Doing my own "getting into character"...this is a property based on a game marketed to 12 year olds, so I'd actually say a sort of Iseki style thig, like the D&D cartoon meets Conan meets Shazam meets Princess Bride.

The 80s were filled with D&D movies. It's just that none of them were branded D&D movies.
