D&D (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

No, it's not. Go try it yourself. Damn, do I need to make a video? No really, multiple people in this very thread have tried it and posted the word Ranged in that paragraph takes you to the definition of Range which includes weapons with either the Ammunition property or Thrown property. My screen shot is real. Why would the Finesse property pop up with the definition of Range?
See post above. Discrepency between sourcebook and rules section. Please look again on my screenshot I provided before and attached here again for your conveniency.

So, you made the same mistake as I did. Not looking at the other one's screenshot. Difference: I did not think you are dumb and actually did research inatead of writing in all caps. Do you think my screenshot was fake? Do I have to make a video for you to find it?

My friend, you're looking at the 2014 rule.

This is the 2014 rule in DNDBeyond:

Note the word finesse is highlighted, but ranged is not. Just like in your screenshot.

Note both the words Finesse and Ranged are highlighted.

When you click on or scroll over the word Ranged in the 2024 rule, it takes you to this:

Range2024.png

I don't think you're dumb and didn't imply that. If it came across that way I apologize, I was responding to you saying I was clicking on Finesse when I wasn't (and couldn't have been - in neither book would the word finesse pop up with the definition for Range).

I blame WOTC. Their system isn't working great. I suspect because you appear to be using the phone app rather than a desktop that might be the source of confusion here.

Just go back to giving Constructs, Undead and Aberrations immunity to sneak attack. That'll teach them uppity thieves.
Hah, well I sure hope anyone suggesting this to me IS a construct or undead, because I WILL SHANK THEM.

No but seriously, the 3.5 conception of sneak attack as something that targets "vital organs" is the biggest crunch/fluff fail in the history of d&d. (I'll admit I may be a tad overdramatic when it comes to Rogues.) Thematically, and in the absence of facing rules that made ye olde Backstabbing work, I can accept precision strikes. But why does it have to be a vital organ? Why not precisely nick someone's femur artery? Why not precisely sever an undead skeleton's tendon and make'em spill half their bones? Why not precisely target a golem's power source? Why not precisely stake a vampire's heart? What's more roguish than that? (The standard Vampire Hunter should be a rogue, fight me.)

5e did a fantastic job removing all that noise. Oh, but I got carried away. :)

IF it's a mistake, WOTC's programmers are the ones who made it. Not. me.
They are! The site design on DnDBeyond is EXTREMELY misleading here.

By the book (not figuratively, literally: according to the 2024 Player's Handbook printed book), things are quite simple: you sneak attack with Ranged or Finesse weapons, and range is another thing.

But people who find the 2024 rules on DnDBeyond, and naturally click on the "Ranged" link, and arrive at the wrong definition due to to crappy site design, will very reasonably reach the wrong conclusion. This is entirely the site's fault!

It isn't literal or simple. Many disagree, and do equate the two terms. They've laid out the case for that in this thread. You're welcome to disagree, but that's all it is, a disagreement about how we perceive these words. We don't know what the intent is, and the only thing we have so far to tip the scale is WOTC programming DNDBeyond in the way they did. Which might have been an error, but that's conjecture.

My friend,
No thank you.
Not if you can't read or look at screenshots. Or do your research correctly. I laid it out for you.

Nope.

If you do research, why not follow the instructions I gave you before making a fool of yourself?

Sorry. Not accepted. Until you just follow my links and note that you are still doing the same mistake.
Does not paint you in a good light.
I blame WOTC. Their system isn't working great. I suspect because you appear to be using the phone app rather than a desktop that might be the source of confusion here.
I blame you for nor even trying. Follow the links. No app. Just with a phone on the website. But clearly the correct rogue.

Did you look at my screenshot at all?
That was not in the 2014 section.
I probably really have to do a video for you.

Lets try it with links first.

Scroll down to sneak attack.

Um, yeah, I see the same thing as UngeheuerLich. No misleading links here.

Also no dice rolling link. Is it different when you're logged in, maybe? What is happening?
The wrong link to the range property is in the section of the digital version of the PHB2024. Someone at DndBeyond messed it up there. Probably a different person than the one doing the class section.
In the PHB I also had a few links that put you into the 2014 section of the rules. I think it was in the equipment section. I don't know if they are still there.

I think that's some kind of custom plug-in. I've never seen that in D&D Beyond either.

Yeah, as appreciated as it was, I suspect the last-minute reversal of the forced adoption of the 2024 rules resulted in D&D Beyond getting pretty borked. There's all sorts of messed up stuff on the site now that the DDB team are scrambling to fix.
