D&D (2024) The New DM Tools In The New Dungeon Master's Guide

The 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide contains a 'toolbox'. The DM's Toolbox is the third chapter in the book, presented as an alphabetical miscellany of varied things to help you prep or run a game.

Each entry is 1-2 pages long and includes things like creating monsters, fear and mental stress, chases, firearms and explosives, and traps. For example, it goes in depth into chases, with details about wilderness or urban chases.

Much of the topics were already in the 2014 DMG--albeit organized differently. Some new topics include character death, and more detailed look at alignment--and how actions determine alignment and not vice versa.

Also included is a big table of 'dungeon quirks'--why, then, and by whom was it built? Examples include made by giants (with everything being larger scale), built on top of a cloud, and so on.

There's plenty more stuff--environments, a settlement tracker (Chris Perkins and James Wyatt roll up a random settlement in the video), hazards, mob rules, marks of prestige (rewards like deeds, medals, or titles).

But you do agree that you have no actual proposals for improving the book?
I'd like variant rules to still be in it, but it's hard to have a proposal to improve a book you haven't seen or have hard info about, so I guess the answer is no. Like I said this is all speculation and fun extrapolation on "if, then" statements. I have been a little sad, I'll admit, at the thought that the version of 5e with the most players is guiding them in a direction I don't enjoy, but there's nothing to be done about it.

I have players that like downtime but hate doing it during sessions. Those players want sessions to be reserved solely for adventuring, no downtime or shopping. I try to get some or all of it done between sessions buuut it can take a lot of the DMs time/effort and players may not realize that by running their downtimes between sessions you're essentially doing an extra mini session 😆
Maybe you as the DM don't realise that in this way, the players get more playtime ;).
A win win - In Person/Main - Session gets you adventure and now you get even more playtime outside of the main session.

I'm quite aware 😅 that's why I said the part about it it being extra work as the DM, because you could end up running a mini-session between sessions.

I'm very curious what they are going to say about the Ravenqueen given that there is some serious lore issues between Tome of Foes/FR Ravenqueen? Lore and previous Ravenqueen Lore/Exandria Lore, MToFs made a mess out of things. Is she a Goddess of Death or an Elven Princess that became twisted by trying to tamper with Gods, or something new yet again. Really MTOFs should have just imported The Ravenqueen into FR as an immigrate deity of Shadar Kai, far from the first, heck Vecna just moved in and set up shop.

Or maybe stop smuggling things to FR. See, spelljamming already exists for people who wants to cross over campaign settings.

With the current emphasis on the shared multiverse, there's zero need for them to keep cramming things into Realmspace.

Also, to heck with Exandria, give us Mentir Vale/Points of Light already.
