D&D 5E What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

Which full casting class is the simplest overall?

  • Cleric

  • Druid

  • Wizard

A wizard that does that is not playing a wizard very well. Even evokers are a lot more than just blasty blasty.
This would not be playing a Wizard well, but they'd still be doing a pretty good job even as a mediocre Wizard, that's why they're so easy. You can't really mess up playing a Wizard

Sure you can. Just go nova in the first fight and then be nearly useless for the next 4-7 of the 5-8 encounters in the adventuring day. Pew pew with cantrips for most of the fights is not even mediocre.

That's why even with the "simple" wizard evoker setup, you still need to be on top of slot management.

guess the only thing is to work on threat recognition.

you should not waste a fireball on a goblin, but 10 of them? sure.
5th level fighter will need 5 rounds to clear them, they will do a lot of damage by then. Damage that is "pre healed" by a well placed fireball.

If you had a newbie or someone who just likes to play simple classes, but REALLY wanted to be a full spellcaster, which class would you tell them is the simplest? If you want to share why you believe so, please do!
Referring to 5e 2014 only, I would instinctively say Sorcerer: smallest number of spells known and least complex rules. One aspect that decreases the complexity in particular, is not having to review spells preparation every day.

Sorcerer.

Everyone who said warlock is wrong. It's a very complex class that's only simple if you know what you're doing. It's very easy to cock it up and miss taking Eldritch blast if you're new.

A lot of moving parts. Sorcerers more self contained but you would almost have to go out if your way to mess it up.

Cannot truly vote. The answer is "none of the above."

There isn't an actually simple full caster. There is one that is simplest by a nose (Cleric, because divine magic is much simpler than arcane due to always knowing every spell on your list), but realistically all spellcasting classes in 5e are extremely complex things.

That's ok I bet the Sith do more DPS anyways
Only if you--like the Sith--ignore party synergy. The Radiant Mafia shall rise again! :P

EB with AB, Pact of the blade+improved pact of the blade+extra blade attack+smite+more blade attacks+more damage on blade attacks...
yeah sounds really complicated.

Now, you can do it very complicated and you can do it on a Fighter-champion level.

If you know how to put it togather.

We're all very experienced D&Ders here. Newbies generally do alright with sorcerers.

I've seen a few screw up Druids, wizards, and especially warlocks (as in they don't take Eldritch Blast).

Should probably specify dragon sorcerer. 2024 they pretty much give you the required stuff. Even newbies can figure out picking spells of the appropriate element.
