D&D (2024) Check Out The New Dungeon Master's Guide's Greyhawk Map

Greyhawk is the 'sample setting' provided in the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide, and it is illustrated with a massive hex map by the awesome Mike Schley.

As far as I can tell from various references, note the location of Aquaria.

That's really interesting, as my recollection of what Frank wrote is that Aquaria is a separate, smaller, continent.

Aquaria is east from Flanaess across the ocean. Only West Oerik qualifies for this description.

In any case, in real life, Asia and Europe are considered as if "separate continents", even tho both are part of the same supercontinent Eurasia.

No, as Gygax and Mentzer conceived it, Aquaria was seperate from Oerik.

In fact, if you look at the map, it's Europe (+North Africa & Western Asia) flipped backwards and tilted about 30 degrees southeastward.

"The Great Kingdom" could very much be considered the old Holy Roman Empire.

Yep, a once great state that became more and more decentralized, with areas breaking away, although many retaining their anachronistic feudal titles like "county" or "duchy".

Although I don't think the Habsburgs cavorted with devils though (although the French and Prussians might disagree!)

Frank Mentzer's Empyrea campaign setting is on the Aquaria continent, which he apparently agreed with Gary was East of Oerik, across the Solnor Ocean. When Frank pitched it as a Kickstarter (and generally) he talked about how Gary had given him written authorization to set it on Oerth, but apparently the continent is also described briefly in module I12 Egg of the Phoenix (Mentzer & Jaquays), so that gives those geographical details at least a touch of officiality.

Yup, but:
1) Last I remember, R4 (a source for I12) had the Greyhawk references, but they didn’t make a lot of sense and weren’t all that serious as it was an RPGA tournament module. I12 was a compilation of Mentzer’s R tournament handout modules, but I believe without the Greyhawk references.

2) Anna Meyer put it on her map as a continent, but without any details.

3) It’s not on the DA1 Bearskin map, or Chainmail map, or LGG Inset map.

4) Roger Moore says don’t use it, not very good or very Greyhawk. I ageee.

5) The Mentzer Kickstarter failed and there’s a “canceled” thing going on. I forget the details.

6) For my campaign, I’ve decided references to it may exist in the Great Library of Rel Astra, but it doesn’t really exist. Perhaps it was a fraud on the Overking to get money for colonization of a Potemkin colony - a place that doesn’t exist? Hard to know.

Which all goes to my point - outside the Flanaess, it’s a DIY setting.

It’s what Anna Meyer’s does, so it’s as close to canon as there is on its placement for “most” fans.

Because Flanaess is itself a "continent" even while being part of the supercontinent Oerik, one can assume that Aquaria too is a "continent" that is part of Oerik.

Besides, planet Oerth is said to have "four continents" and "four oceans". The continents are Hyperborea (explicitly said to be a continent), Polaria, Antaria, and Oerik. There is no room for a fifth continent.

Regarding Meyer, I love her maps − they are beautiful.
