D&D (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

Is that showing how to build out an entire campaign world? I don't think 5 pages and an underveloped region would really benefit new DM's all that much.

EDIT: I'm curious... can you recommend a beginner friendly campaign world that's available and only takes up 5 pages?
It would not be a world but an example region. Other regions are created the same way, so all they add is repetition.

It is one thing to say we want to include a world for the DM to be able to play in, it is another to say we want to teach a new DM how to create a world and have examples for that.

You asked how else to show how to create a campaign setting, not how else to include one for the DM to use as a campaign setting

No, the whole thing is a showcase for the advice earlier in the book: the pantheon shows what they recommend doing in Chapter 3, etc.
an expansive showcase because they wanted to include GH. Would have to go through those 32 or so pages to see what is redundant, but I do not think the example would have to be anywhere as large if its main purpose were to be an example for how to build a setting instead of to include a setting ready for use / bring back GH specifically

5 pages might have been optimistic though, which is why I edited that out ;)

I mean, it is a pretty minimal showcase, bit it is an expansive and excellent demonstration of what a Setting need at minimum. And each page follows the advice earlier in the book, so it is a good tool.

I am not saying it is not a good setting to use for this, I am saying you would not have to include as much if it were truly meant to function as an example for DMs to build their own setting from. It very clearly doubles as an introduction to GH for the DM to use as a setting

On what basis do you say that? Kobold Press gets social media pushes from WotC on the regular, WotC sells KP products on their own web page.
Because the hobby has people out there that REFUSE to acknowledge/use anything that isn't like strictly by the book/WoTC official.

I mean, it is clearly set up as an example of how to build a Setting step by step, from small high area to focused region to fuller continent, with all the details that would help in prep and play. It is as much a homebrew master class as a Setting peoduct...and WotC have made it clear they have no intention nof revisiting Greyhawk themselves past this primer.

Yes but then there wouldn't have been an example setting for beginning DM's and no Greyhawk for those DM's (beginning and experienced) looking to pilfer ideas or run D&D without creating a world.
SCAG
Eberron
Theros
Dragonlance
Planescape
(not Spelljammer)
Ravenloft
And more.

There are plenty of example settings for new DMs to look at and pilfer ideas from. Note, though, that I don't have a problem with a sample setting being in the DMG, but not at the cost of things that are as important or more important than the sample setting, like the section on optional/alternate rules.

OK, but a lotnof the people upset by this were Kobold Press customers.
me!

I have many of their books. They're close to a must purchase for me. I regularly promote their products.
What someone did to their lead creative is horrible treatment. An amount of rewriting that forces her to request a credit removal is dire.
The apology is good, but my sour taste may just push me towards different books, because when you rewrite a creator that much in public what are you doing to them in the actual books?
