D&D 5E D&D Beyond 12 Days of Christmas 2024

I don't think that's been true for a while - just tested it with For Gold and Glory ($0.00) and I didn't have to enter any payment information, beit credit card or paypall. It just moves you on to the next step, fulfillment.

Wait, I just reread your response. I think you're mistaking an objection about going through the process of completing an order with having to go through that process and entering in cc/pp information for absolutely no reason.

Some have a problem with the former, as I understand doing a few steps to associate the item with your account; my objection is the latter as I'm not providing my payment methods unless I'm actually spending money and having to do so seems seedy.
DriveThru requires a payment method for free stuff last I checked: maybe they just had yours on file already?

If you don't want to give your address, just give them 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500. Phone number? 555-123-4567. Done.

I don't see what the big issue is, they just have a consolidated checkout system.

You shouldn't have to jump through hoops like this, most folks might not be on enworld or somewhere with solutions and maybe getting extremely frustrated.

It's complete and utterly embarrassing incompetence for this to occur, folks at D&D Beyond need to correct this, you shouldn't need a fake American address for this. It should not happen in the future, LEARN from the mistake and fix it.

Do you have to have an American address? It just asks for one, I don't know that it is limited. I don't think most people are confused by entering information at checkout...?

I have to "buy" free stuff on sites like DMs Guild / Drive Thru RPG as well. I'm not sure why people are making such a big deal about this. Is it just anti-WotC sentiment?
Are you new here? :D

Yes, we love to complain about how terrible and evil WotC is . . . both when WotC really is being terrible, and when they aren't . . . like during the 12 Days of Christmas 2024.

Same was true back in the day with TSR. The wheel turns . . .

It depends on how the publisher sets up the free product. I've had to do both . . . sometimes you have to enter credit card info, sometimes you don't. Not sure what exactly makes it different, because I don't pay that close attention.

I've never had to enter my payment info for free stuff on DriveThruRPG, unless it is "Pay what you want" in which case it makes sense because you potentially could enter a number to pay. I pretty much never save my payment info anywhere online so it definitely isn't a base of them already having my info on file and I just tested with a freebie Shadowdark class option and where the payment info would be entered it just says "Your cart does not require a payment". Same experience on the actual Shadowdark store if I go to buy the free Solodark rules.

I can't think of another site I've received free TTRPG stuff from where I've had to enter a credit card. I get WotC wanting your basic info for marketing research, but the credit card ask is ridiculous.
