My "Savage" Experience

That is an interesting question for @Retreater -- you are counting exploding dice in damage, too, right?

I did wonder.

And to make it clear, Retreater this is not an accusation or anything directed at you, its just so bizarrely off of what my experience would expect to happen I'm trying to identify why it would be . I mean, honestly, I'd even be expecting the 2D6 weapons to be getting some work done sometimes (though they are underpowered for that toughness).

Also, does the enemy statblocks explain what those 10 TOU are about? As in, why they have them? Because most of the time when you see something that high (since a vanilla human has a TOU of 5) its because of armored vests and the like, and aimed shots can go around those (you'll miss more, but the hits that land will do work).

Yes. Everyone gets very excited about it when it happens.

Except when a mook did 33 points to a PC during the fight.

I'm just looking up a typical weapon. It's 2d6+1 damage. It has an AP 1. So that should be an average result of 8 against a Toughness 9 (considering the AP 1). So as long as they roll average, not including exploding dice or a raise on shooting for the extra 1d6, they should be in the right ballpark to at least Shake the enemies. But it's not.

In the specific case from last night's battle, I'm unsure of how it's calculated. Vigor is d8 (which accounts for 6 Toughness) and Armor is +3 (which should get us to 9). The armor is just for the torso, so I guess a called shot could avoid 3 points.

That's why I wondered if you were hitting serious dice aberrations. I've had one campaign I had some problems like this, but it involved serious mismatches of weapons to armor (PCs who were throwing 12+ Toughness almost demand high-tech or other heavy weapons).

The might have an Edge of some sort, but yeah, that can make a serious difference in those cases. It can be particularly effective if they don't have helmets to do headshots, since those do extra damage in the first place, but even limb shots are useful (though you do have to expect to miss more).

Its one of those things that can be attractive or repulsive depending on where you come from. Without bennies in it, I'd find it a problem, but with them it seems a nice compromise.
Sure. I think one thing that happens with folks discovering Savage Worlds from other games, especially D&D likes, is that they might not like "metacurrency" and consider it optional. It really isn't in SWADE. It is built into the system, as much as hit points are in D&D. So playing without them or with them greatly reduced gives an inaccurate (and probably negative) experience of the game.
