Truly an iconic image; however, I really dislike that dragon! Elmore did a lot of good things, but I don't think dragons were his strongest area.
I loved his dragons. Also his Lord Soth is amazing but I am also searching for an old cover of a Forgotten Reams manual with a female vampire leaving a tavern. That was amazing in my opinion.

I don't want yuck on your yum, so I will just say that I prefer almost everything else he painted. I do want to clarify that I think that technically a great painting, I just don't like the design.

This piece by Keith Parkinson is the standard for Draconians to me:

I just wanted to second this one.

This piece was a very, Big Deal for my young self. As a kid I was obsessed with reptilian races (boy would I have loved Dragonborn back in the 90s), and Dragonlance. But this painting... the almost too-real winter setting, very familiar to home, adds a wonderful contrast between the fantastic and the mundane. Plus I always interpreted the dragon on the left being petrified (ie, was killed, turned to stone) which is why the other Draconians look on edge, wary and defensive adds drama and intrigue.

It is truly one of my favorite pieces ever from D&D.
