D&D Monster Manual (2025)

D&D (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

As I've said, there are a lot of topics that do not demand 5.5 as the example game (general gaming topics, things that apply to lots of D&D-style games, etc). Many of those discussions take place in the D&D forum.

Look, I am very sorry, but we live in an imperfect world. There will be cool things in the world that are in places that are not good for some particular people.

I, myself, have an issue with roller coasters. That's my own issue. Now, there are things at amusement parks that aren't roller coasters. And fun times with friends to be had at amusement parks that aren't riding on roller coasters.

So, I have a choice - I can go with my friends to the amusement park, and I can enjoy what I can, and respectfully not take part in things that aren't my bag, or I can go to the amusement park, and be a complete pill about how horrible roller coasters are at every opportunity.

If I do the latter, I am the problem, not the roller coaster. If, when I go to the amusement park, I find I cannot resist the urge to be a nuisance about the roller coasters, then I really ought to avoid the amusement park. Yes, my friends will have fun without me. Such is life. Making my personal issue into a problem for them is not justified by FOMO.

Same principle applies - if someone has a personal issue, they have choices about when they raise those issues. If they cannot show some wisdom and restraint, they make their issues a problem for those around them, which is decidedly uncool.

So - wisdom and restraint. Folks have to learn to pick their moments.

Never liked the format 4e used. Too clinical. I'm glad they're keeping bloodied in some form though.
The "clinical" nature of the 4e books is one of the things that brought me back to D&D. I really disliked the 3e book graphic design, and 2e for that matter. 5e threaded the needle pretty well, and 5e24 seems to be moving slightly more to the 4e side, but I still prefer the 4e book design in a lot of ways (though there are things I like about the 5e book design too).

I did not realize recharge was a 4E innovation. I could have sworn it was Pathfinder...
4e, with nifty dice icons to boot!

I'm well versed in it, yes. I save it for the most egregious violations, like spammers and Musk supporters.
Right, all I am saying is if the main interaction you have with another poster are appeals to stay on topic and not be negative...maybe that ia actually such an egregious case. I don't know what y'all are responding to, but the responses begging for reason are crowding the thread.

Yes, 3e was similar, but different. 4e style recharge is what I was talking about. And of course PF copied the 3e style after 4e came out.
Recharge is a simple but great mechanic. I use it for a lot of high power abilities besides breath weapons. For example, evil powerful casters in my game can cast a spell as a reaction, but that ability is on a recharge.
