I think my new favorite picture is the Nothic.

I still don't like spells as name-drops rather than running info. (It absolutely enrages me when what the spell actually does would be shorter to write than "This monster can cast fireball once per day. Intelligence is his spellcasting ability for it. Blah blah."

A LOT of the monsters have what you might call "weapon-mastery-like" abilities.

The art is really something else. Generally superb.

Yeah, came in later.

Was 5.5 MM supposed to be just a retread or 5e?
I'm not sure what you mean by that question. Is the or supposed to be "of"? That makes more sense.

I think it's a little of both - it's supposed to replace the 2014 MM but NOT Monsters of the Multiverse, but they also wanted to cover a wider CR-spread per creature type. So not a total retread, but not cramming in all extant statblocks.

Let's talk the Conversion Chart!

There's some obvious stuff like a "Goblin" is a "Goblin Warrior" or a "Poisonous Snake" is a "Venomous Snake".

But there's some truly weird ones, like a "Lizardfolk" is converted to a "Scout" or an "Orc" to a "Tough" (that gives basic orcs a whole LOT of extra HP than before!)
