At present I'm doubtful that there ever will be a next game. In light of recent conversations on a couple of other threads, I'm really not sure I'll ever feel confident returning.

But if I do, it's almost 100% sure that I'll use some version of D&D, be that the 2014 version, the 2024 version, or an eventual 6e, 7e, or later.
You're considering dropping out of the hobby altogether? I'm sorry to hear that (I like hearing your perspective around here) but I assume it's a considered choice and hopefully the right one for you.

Sorry to hear as well. I hope you continue to stay and find the right group for you.

I have two groups, and both are specifically playing high-level 5E (they are both level 16).

I'm very confident that we won't be playing 5E for our specific next game. Mainly because I've had my fill (it's overflowing) for probably the next 3 years 😂

I like to switch genres and settings anyway, so I would imagine it'll be a big switch-up: Call of Cthulhu or Deadlands or something similar (definitely won't be fantasy).

Thanks. Never say never, though.

At the moment I'm not playing mostly because I don't have a group, and don't have any time to find a group. That's not a particularly big deal. I'm also really bothered by some of the stuff we've been discussing, but that's not unique either - in previous cases there's been some stuff I made my peace with, and in some cases WotC changed direction. So give it a few months and let the storms die down, or a few years for 6e do something different, and I may well find it's a non-issue.

I'm also not planning to leave here. Though in the 4e/PF1e era, when I stayed with 3.5e throughout, I did find that I had less and less I could meaningfully contribute - can't really comment on the newest version when I'm not playing. :)

(There is also, of course, the possibility of A5e, TotV, or just D&D 2014 as substitutes. They just make finding a new group that much more challenging.)
