And given that the Surfer was one of my favorite Marvel characters and I have been wanting to see him in the MCU, I will now be skipping the movie based on the unnecessary gender swap.
A comics purist I see. Just curious, did you also boycott the Dr. Strange and Avengers: Endgame movies for replacing The Ancient One with a white actor?

You could practically hear the gears grinding in the last 20 minutes of Wandavision so that we could have the requisite 20 minutes of CGI fighting after hours of trippy meditations on loss and identity.
So agree. Definitely notched down Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for me when they did the same thing. It had plenty of good fights, we didn't need the CGI dragons.

I know it's an odd dichotomy to pair up, but I think between this and Thunderbolts I'm the most excited I've been for the MCU in a couple of years.

Please, don't mess the FF up.
I do wish we could have gotten something like the original Thunderbolts, but I'm not sure in today's media environment, they could ever pull off a twist like the end of issue #1, given that they're using the same team name, etc.

Unfortunately, the MCU doesn't have a deep bench of still-living villains to do that with.

I did refuse to see Dr. Strange in the theater over the whitewashing of the Ancient One in an act of pandering to China.

As for Endgame, I refused to see it in the theater, because I had no interest in the Infinity War storyline back in the comics (let alone a reimagined story based on it). Once, you get to the 1990s and beyond, my interest in Marvel has been primarily limited to Busiek's Avengers, the Gruenwald, Waid, and Brubaker runs on Captain America, Christopher Priest on Black Panther vol 3, a handful of Daredevil runs (D.C. Chichester, Frank Miller/Romita J.. Kevin Smith, and David Mack), and Spiderman up to the start of the Clone Saga.

Now, I have heard good things about Bendis's runs on Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil, Coates's Black Panther (when reading collected), and Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan). I, eventually, plan to come back around to these. However, I first intend to finish filling in both my Marvel and DC Silver Age, Bronze Age, and Copper Age collected edition wish list along with my Modern Age DC (primarily pre-Zero Hour) collected editions wishlist.

This whole discussion reminds me of when Daniel Craig was being cast as James Bond and fans were tearing down the movie before it even came out.
Yup. Also, when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker and Micheal Keaton when he was cast as Batman and Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Tony Stark.

Fans...are not the best judges of things. Especially the so-called purists. No imagination...
