Down goes “300”!!!! NOOOOO

This reminds me of another one.

Overrated: The Dark Knight Returns / Watchmen / The Killing Joke

These deconstructionist takes on superhero comics eventually replaced the classic superhero stories to the point that many new fans are think these are the prototypical Batman or Superman stories. I imagine Zach Snyder growing up with these books as his only window into DC and coming out the other side saying “Yeah. My Superman will kill Zod because he has no other choice and it’ll be dark and realistic - the way it should be.”

Underrated: the Rings of Power TV show. Visually a stunning masterpiece, the writing gets Tolkien's themes in a way that Peter Jacksom did not, amd the acting has been incredible. Destined to be well remembered, despite the Sturm und Drang.

Overrated: Return of the Jedi. This is the first bad Star Wars movies. Really did not age well when I watched the original trilogy as an adult during the pandemic.

The best of Discworld is very good indeed. But there's some real clunkers in there. E.g: the last few were not good. I know, he was not well at the end, poor fella.

Underrated: The Last Jedi, one of the only good Star Wars movies.

Overrated: Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. Great movies, love then, but not good adaptations of the book (for starters should be musicals), and that really came to rooat with ths abominable Hobbit movies.

Overrated: Anything Joss Whedon. And yes, that includes Firefly - which was pretty good, but I don't get the universal worship. To me it is like good 90s SF, which isn't saying all that much considering how bad 90s SF was. To me his stuff was "pretty to very good," but rarely great. He seems MIA these days (cancelled?).
I'll go with Firefly as being overrated. I have friends whose lives were changed by Firefly and it just seemed so bizarre to me. It probably didn't help they all wanted to talk about Firefly all the time and I didn't watch the show until it was released on DVD. It was a good show and I enjoyed it, but the second coming it was not.
Overrated: Deadpool Vs Wolverine - I thought it was hilarious the first time that I saw it, and then I watched it a second time. I suddenly realized the vast majority of the truly funny parts have nothing to do with the fourth wall breaking, pseudo industry commentary and in-crowd references which really makes up most of the jokes, and are just the pure slapstick and self-deprecating remarks that have nothing to do with whether or not you watched another Fox superhero movie. Plus, using old 80s/90s pop songs as emotional crutches one after the other got tiresome. The movie’s gonna age like milk.
I found myself tired of multiverse stories by the time I saw DP v. W. Ultimately I just didn't care about any of the characters or the plot.
