MoonSong

Rules-lawyering drama queen but not a munchkin
Hello Enworlders,

Today I'm asking you for some help to locate books. One for me, and one for a gift. I'm having a hard time finding something. I need it to be a book a bit like The Lunar Chronicles but without the robots, spaceships and other sci-fi elements. These are a big turn off for the intended kid. Is there a good fantasy romance novel apt for a tween out there? I was about to go with a Court of thorns and Roses, but it feels a bit like there's grooming involved in that romance and it turns gorey at later books. I'd also like to give something without exploitative elements.

For me I'm just fishing for something moderately interesting. It doesn't even need to be fiction, non-fiction is fine. I just need to step a bit outside my comfort zone.

Any help here?

Hmmm...Holly Black's Tithe (or any of the Modern Faerie Tales series, really). Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone. Maybe Blazewrath Games, by Amparo Ortiz? Would it be too soon for The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle?

For you, if you're looking for non-fiction, I might suggest any of Barry Strauss' works on history. The Trojan War and The Battle of Salamis are both really darn good.

I enjoyed the first book in this series
Might look at it later for myself.

I think I'll go with the Language of Thorns. Other books by the author aren't available locally it seems, but this one looks very promising and being a short story anthology seems like it'll do the trick. Thank you!

For the teen who liked The Moon Chronicles but prefers fantasy to science fiction, Aliana, the Dragon Girl by Julie Abe, is a great choice. It's a magical twist on Cinderella with dragons and inspired by Japanese folklore. I remember being so immersed in reading that I didn't have time for research and had to turn to https://paytowriteresearchpaper.com/research-papers-for-sale this resource. So I think this is a good recommendation. For yourself: if you want to go beyond your comfort zone, think about non-fiction. There are many interesting topics that can provide new insights and perspectives.

For the tween, try An Enchantment of Ravens—a fantasy romance without sci-fi. For you, maybe Sapiens if you want engaging non-fiction!
