General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

I'd probably just kill of the Canon they did, or revise it to something better that more people will latch onto...
Obviously, they're not listening to me, and nor should they, but I would argue that they absolutely should not bin the new canon. Doing it once was risky, but arguably to the good. But doing it repeatedly gives a clear message that everything is canon only provisionally - until the next person comes in and decides they want to change it, or until the bottom line suffers a blip, or whatever. In which case, I'm not going to buy into anything they're doing.

It's the same mess that the superhero comics keep getting themselves into - reboot, run into trouble, reboot... and find that every time you do people stop caring and opt out.

Burning down the old EU would have been fine had they replaced it with something better. Unfortunately, they've largely replaced it with a mess that seems to get its only good ideas by raiding the stuff they've decanonized, so, really, what was the point of that?

And doing endless shows that seem to be building up to the huge revelation that the Emperor survived feels like backfilling the story to justify possibly their worst decision ever - a whole lot of wasted effort for something best forgotten.

At this point I'm inclined to think that their best idea is to jump forward in time a significant distance (and ruling that all the existing characters are out of play), setting up a new status quo, and going from there.
That is certainly the premise I would go with if I were to start an RPG campaign for Star Wars.

This. I think it would be interesting to see a movie / Disney+ series focusing on the Jedi before the Order became part of the Republic. Back when they were still independent.
If you consider the Old Republic games canonical, the Jedi were already pretty integrated with the Republic back then. To find an independent Order, you'd probably have to go back to practically before the Republic existed.

Yeah. That would be fine with me!

Old EU some of the last material was going back 25000 years. Founding of Republic and near Rakata infinite empire from KoTOR.

Old Republic is probably last bullet left Disney has for general care factor. High Republics probably a non event for live action not many seem to care for the books.

Yes, I'd rather they not pull a George Lucas and continually fiddle with stuff. Just accept it and move on. Reboots and revisions are a doddle.

Yeah I watched the originally trilogy again with my wife and some of the changes did things like mess with shot composition. It was novel in the 90s when he added some more special effects, but I really wish they would just restore and preserve the original versions because, whether he likes it or not, those are the films he made and released. Something similar has occurred with Amadeus where it is really hard to get anything but the directors cut (and while not everyone agrees, most people think the directors cut is pretty awful compared with the original)

I managed to get a box set of DVDs that includes both his special edition versions and the original theatrical cuts.

Ugh...just watched the 7th episode of Skeleton Crew. The last five minutes are insultingly stupid. On so many levels: characters not acting like real human beings, everyone acting like a moron, and the setting being ridiculous.

Star Wars does this over, and over, and over again (exception: the first two films, Rogue One, and Andor): just jettisons any kind of story logic to get to the point in the plot they want. It's like rule of cool takes over and now I'm completely out of the story.

I will always have a love for the franchise BUT WHY DO THEY ALWAYS WANT TO JETTISON STORY LOGIC ?!? It's so frustrating - I can think of a million ways they could have gotten to the same point without blowing up the whole story. And Andor shows that you can have a cohesive, meaningful story in the Star Wars franchise.

I don't even want to watch the last episode, I'm so irritated.
