Amazon takes over Bond franchise

I did not see this coming.

Amazon has had the distribution rights for Bond since it acquired MGM a few years ago. Creative control was held by EON (the UK film company headed up by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson).

Amazon and EON fell out recently due to creative differences—Broccoli was angered when Amazon execs refers to Bond as ‘content’ and wanted to do all sorts of TV/movie spinoffs to monetise the brand more.

I even said just this week in another thread that that would never happen and Broccoli would never let it happen. Seems I’m wrong! Amazon presumably offered them enough cash to change her mind.

So. I guess it’s all-change for Bond. Young James Bond live-action TV show incoming, no doubt? Blofeld as a kid? The origins of Spectre? A multi 00 team-up? The wacky adventures of Q Branch? I guess we’ll find out!

Yikes... Im beginning to fear anything amazon gets their hands on.

Yeah, that kind of sucks. The Broccolis were good stewards for the Bond franchise over a huge timeframe that saw lots of changes, and while not every Bond movie was great, they always made sure the character had staying power.
Yeah, this is the end of an era. As you said, even if not every outing was great, The Broccolis made Bond the longest-lasting film franchise I can think of. Generations grew up with Bond. I can't say I'm hopeful here.

$20 says the new James Bond will be bald.
I guess I better start practicing my English accent!
