D&D (2024) Dragon Delves Cover Revealed

At MagicCon: Chicago this last weekend, WotC revealed the cover art for July's Dragon Delves hardcover.

Two covers were revealed--the regular cover by Greg Staples, and the alternative cover by Justine Jones.

Oof, I think I’ve never disliked a pair of WotC covers so much in the 10 years of 5th edition.

I can see what Jones was going for, even if I don’t like where it landed, but the Staples cover I just find baffling. Surprised that there are some here who seem to like it, and glad for them.

I'm clearly a standard cover guy as I think this one, and all the three core books are poor in my eyes.
Look forward to purchasing this. It has dragons and dungeons!

Looking at Jones' website, I actually wish she had gone FURTHER into psychedelia with her cover, as many of her other pieces do: Justine Jones Illustration. I hope she wasn't asked to dial it back.
I wonder if this cover will react under blacklight. No idea how much more it costs, if anything, to get ink that will respond appropriately, but it feels like a missed opportunity if it doesn't.

I'm still not a big fan of either, but I think I actually like the alternate one better. Not a fan of the regular cover graphic design at all. (If that's going to be the new layout for 2024 standard covers going forward, I think I'll only be getting alt covers from now on, even if I don't really like them.)

One thing to note: it looks like each dragon will be getting its own art style as a sort of "extensive visual history of D&D's dragons over the last 50 years."

Just curious what you don't like about the standard cover graphic design? I think I prefer the more traditional cover image wrap around, compared to this. But I am not against them trying other things, and there is some logic since this is an anthology.

I don't think this will be the standard as it doesn't match any of the core books (except the black out area being at the bottom now). Though perhaps that is what you don't like!

I will still get the standard cover of this rather than the alt (which I really don't care for at all).

Interesting that it says "Quick start guides for DMs" are included. I wonder what that means.

I wasn't really planning on getting this until this back cover reveal of what is included. I could probably use 10 dragon themed dungeons and the history of D&D dragons sounds interesting. Finally, the only reason I had previously considered getting this before - 10 unique art styles. I am interested in that.
