D&D (2024) Monster Manual Organisation

I'm not sure if you intended your statement to be rude, but the use of pedantic makes it a bit rough on those of us that like things grouped how they were. I certainly didn't intend my comment to be insulting if it engendered that response! I was trying to acknowledge and thank you for speaking up and saying that it worked for you.
Sorry, I misinterpreted your reply. I thought you were being sarcastic and lashed back. I’ll edit my post.

Full disclosure, I currently have only the D&D beyond version. But you can see, from it, how the physical book is laid out.

And I just don't get the complaints.
I think you just answered your own question. You don't see this problem in a digital presentation. If I need to drop in a monster for an encounter that I'm creating on the fly, I have an indexed search option that I can use which makes it not an issue.

If I'm at a table and need to find something, because I'm dropping a random encounter on the group, or one of the players summons something (you can still do that, right?) I want to quickly find the info. And the fastest way for me to do that is to remember how the book organizes monsters so I can just jump to the right place. Across editions, this has been something of a mess, and it hasn't been cleaned up here, it sounds like.

It doesn't really matter which choice you make, just make one choice and stick with it consistently. The brain will appreciate it. If I have to take the extra step of looking at an index it's going to be annoying. I know that because until 4E that's exclusively how I did things. For me, that's the problem. It's also one of the reasons why I won't be buying the physical book.

Wait. So if I want to add the species info to an NPC do I need to pull out the PHB? And are those the only species of humanoids?

I would even have been fine with a separate "Humanoid Handbook" that had all the occupations in alpha order and with the various species info in the back.

And what if I want an Aaracokra Pirate or Kobold Scout... (Or I guess making them elementals and dragons respectively, and not humanoids at all, takes care of that question. I wonder if they are going to regret the way they de-humanoided a bunch of these when they see where it leads).

:-(

My day 1 reaction is to now regret buying the Monster Manual instead of sticking with the 2014 one.

Yeah. That really great table in the 2014 DMG with all the humanoid species and what traits they'd add to NPCs... all gone.

No such thing as a duergar in 2024, either. No stats at all...
