D&D General If we were re-designing the Tiny Hut-esc 'instant shelter' spells what would we change?

I'm used to the 1e version of Rope Trick, that lasts for hours.

While I like this force-is-opaque for Leo's Hut it seems to defeat the best aspect of Wall of Force, that being to make an invisible immovable barrier for things to crash into at full speed. :)
It did cause some amount of problems with things like a Shield spell making the caster effectively blind. :)

It almost has to be more than a strict hemisphere in order to allow it to be cast on non-level or rough ground.
The 2024 version has, at least, settled that issue by making it a 10 foot emanation rather than a dome.
 

This is debatable as well. Spells may follow rules, but there's plenty of examples of "it's magic!" all over the place in D&D. Castles built on clouds, islands that float in the sky, rivers that flow through the air, places where time itself doesn't flow correctly, and so on. Sure, you could say "A Wizard did it" with an unknown spell, but what happens when said spell would have to be higher than 9th level? Some campaign settings have had spells higher than 9th (pre-Karsus Faerun, Athas), but does every one?

And that doesn't even take into account weird monster abilities which have no explanation, like the gas attack of a gorgon that turns one to stone. They just...do it. And the explanation is...uh, magic I guess?
I thought we were using the word "magic" in D&D to mean "spells". Other stuff is "supernatural". Didn't we agree on that?
 




I think all supernatural things should be suppressed in an antimagic field, so there you go.
I think the problem with this is defining what is 'supernatural' in a setting. We can define it from our real worl perspective, of course, but a lot of things might be considered perfectly normal to people living in a fantastic world.

"Yep, that there waterfall has flowed upwards since anyone can remember. Just a fact of life around these parts. Oh and that sky island up there? Great pasture for grazing, the dogs are smart enough to keep the sheep from falling off. Though you have to be brave to cross the bridge to get there!"
 

So everyone’s walking around with dispel magic in case of adventurers with Tiny Hut?

Is there a little red box on the wall with a Dispel Magic scroll and a sign saying “Break glass in case of resting heroes?”

No, it’s the spell that needs adjustment.
Literally every PC adventuring party is going to have someone with Dispel Magic available. It's really not much of a stretch that most packs of non-beast monsters would have the someone with the spell
