D&D General Have you ever used Acquisitions Incorporated?

Have any of you used the Acquisitions Incorporated book in your games?

If so, how closely do you follow the lore? Do you feel that it holds up to the test of time?

I'm considering using it to flesh out the background of an NPC that I may or may not use.

I used it for one campaign. Ultimately I found the business side to be pointless because of how easy it was to acquire money. It was a lot of extra bookkeeping for no good reason.

Let me start by saying that I am not an Acq Inc fan. However, I bought the book and I really like it. I was only ever able to run half the included adventure, but it was a lot of fun.

I also think the franchise subsystem is a great way to handle running a business in D&D, and I would have preferred it if WotC had simply filed off the Acq Inc serial numbers and included that in the 2024 DMG instead of the Bastion system. (There may have been licensing issues there; I'm not sure.)

I get that corporate office humor isn't something everyone wants in their D&D, and that's fine. I do, however, think there's some valuable stuff in that book if you can look past the gimmicky bits.

Yes but not sure I enjoyed it. I think it was partially how the DM ran it. He used the characters from the books and the contracts seemed so illogical so I’m not sure he was running the franchise properly. Having the franchise was cool but why were we paying so much money to Aqu. Inc? We were given property by a King and left to develop it. But then needed to pay Aqu. Inc for doing nothing except using their name? Why would we do that? They provided us nothing except useless and annoying NPCs.

So yeah, pretty sure it wasn’t run properly.

I did like upgrading our homebase which seemed to work better than Bastions.

I got the free version on DDB, but I've never used it. Didn't like the tone and the Corporation schema put me off (not to mention the artwork).

I was recently looking it again to see if I could use it for a better Bastion system, but it did not strike me as the way to go.
