Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Is Almost Upon Us! Discuss What You Want

I just finished watching the first two seasons while I row.

Honestly the episodes with the Gorn were all pretty good. The trial episode was all right.

The rest, well if you can't say something nice....

More of what they've been doing. But no time travel please. Unless they want to save Captain Pike and make him a recurring admiral for the reboot of the original series. If they use this model I'll be ok with one last abuse of the space time continuum

Been binge watching the first two seasons recently.

First off, one thing that they borrowed from ST:Discovery is how to make the show visually GORGEOUS. The show just is stunning most of the time.

I'm really liking the show. Really playing into TOS (those old scientists) vibes while making it pretty new. I do miss the old days of getting 20+ episodes per season, but, OTOH, there's a lot less filler now too. 🤷

Seeing Spock smile has got to be one of the creepiest things I've ever seen in Star Trek. It's freaking brilliant.

Heh. Ok, I just finished up Subspace Rhapsody. Seeing dancing Klingons was probably one of the absolute funniest things I've ever seen. I just about piddled myself laughing.

And I realized, that's something that's been missing from Star Trek for a long time - humour. It's actually pretty refreshing to be honest.

Lower Decks and Prodigy would like a word.
Never really got into the animated stuff. Wasn’t available here for a long time. Tried Prodigy but bounced off it hard. Watched maybe two episodes and lost interest.

And Lower Decks is parody. It’s supposed to be funny. That’s the point. The regular ST shows for a long time - Enterprise, Disco, DS9, didn’t do humour very much. All serious all the time.

It's a rough start, but it gets so much better. Later season 1 and pretty much all of season 2 is really good.

As mentioned, it's comedy, not parody. It does humour very well, but it also does Trek very well, some of the best drama moments of Trek from the past decade have been in that show.

And I'll give you Enterprise and Discovery, but DS9 had plenty of humour. Most mirror universe episodes, most Ferengi episodes, Trials and Tribble-ations, and plenty more sprinkled throughout the show.

LD is funny, but it's not parody.

It's funny in its own terms, as comedy, but it's not at the expense of, mocking, or critiquing the wider franchise. Indeed, it loves the wider franchise -- the whole series is a love letter.
Something can be parody and not mockery. Being a parody does not in any way mean that the laughs come at the expense of the wider franchise. But an opening sequence where the giant space monster is nibbling on the Marcelle! That’s parody. :).

Or comedy if you like. I’m not wedded to the terminology. The point I was making is Liwer decks is supposed to be funny. The other Treks have seemed to lose their sense of humour over the years and it was refreshing to see a couple of “silly” episodes.
