The Naked Gun | Official Teaser Trailer (2025 Movie)

OK, the OJ Simpson joke was good.

Yeah that was good. I don't think Liam Neeson is the best choice for this role (actually if he is still working, Charlie Sheen is probably the best at doing that kind of comedy). But I am sure there are others out there who could play the Drebin role better than Neeson

Sheen comes with a lot of baggage at this point, so I don't know how much headlining work he's apt to get these days.

The movies/the series are very much of their time. There are plenty of then-current news and media references.
Did you not watch countless movies and TV shows filled with then-current news and media references? Because I sure did, in the 1980s and 1990s particularly. Hell, that's how I learned about some of that stuff, or knew to look it up or ask adults about it. And if anything, teens and twenties today have a remarkable knowledge of bits of 1980s and 1990s pop culture, thanks to our nostalgia-obsessed media!

And I don't buy that absurdist humour of this kind is alien to teens through thirties. I've seen too many TikToks through Lonely Island to believe that. Also frankly "weird pacing" describes about 80% of TV today. I feel like pacing is almost a lost art a lot of the time!
Its been awhile, but I always remembered wild swings between comedic incompetence and suave capability. Seems to fit but gotta see the rest of the movie to know.
I watched the first two Naked Guns a few months ago, and whilst I can't be sure about Police Squad, Frank Drebin is pretty much 100% incompetent-but-very-lucky in those.

Well, the opening of the first one has exactly such a wild swing, with him beating up a roomful of evil dictators before falling out a window, so if the bank scene is a similar character intro it would be in keeping.

Sure that would be a big consideration. But it looks like he is starring in a Chuck Lorre show on Max since 2023, so he seems to still be working

Im guessing thats why Sheen was offered up as the better choice. Which is a take...

The rationale was he actually very good in things like Hot Shots and even in those terrible Scary Movies, he and Neilson both stood out. And also Neeson just seems like such a bad choice (especially judging by the clip). He seems like he could be believable as Neilson's son and has the comedic timing to make it work. I am sure there are better people who can do the straight man thing in a comedy (Bill Hader leaps to mind, but he might be too goofy). I could be wrong, maybe Neeson will be great (I do like him in action movies and dramatic roles).
