Folks nailed it with The Rock though. Arnie's brand was good movies with his personality. The Rock is the brand himself whether its wrestling, movies, TV shows, tequila, etc..

Though, if you want to see a "copland" version of the Rock, check out Ballers.

Yeessss, Ballers is one of those shows that tell me the guy could do more.

And yet Johnson having too much control, as a producer, is ultimately what seems to have killed that movie.
I think about what might have gone wrong there since he seemed way into it. Maybe his overwhelming amount of control chocked out the enthusiasm of everyone else?

Too into it, as a vehicle for himself, rather than as a film. You could see the production going downhill in real time, if you read trade papers/sites.

Copland shows you're correct re: Stallone, and forever makes some of his other choices disappointing. I remember thinking "Wow, Stallone can act?! I thought Rocky was a happy accident!" when I saw that. Oh and Demolition Man too, showed a more interesting and fun Stallone. But then he was just in so many bad action movies, many of which he produced or even financed.

(EDIT - I was this years old when I realized Demolition Man was probably a joke on Cro-Magnon Man or Neanderthal Man or the like.)
I still remember the most disappointing thing about Stallone's Judge Dredd movie being the fact that Demolition Man, which came out at roughly the same time, clearly demonstrated that he could bring the energy to that role that it needed.

Underrated:
Space:Above and beyond. Very solid military sf from the 90's, unfortunately, it got canceled after only 1 season.

Overrated:
Dune books, especially God Emperor, Heretics and Chapterhous. It's just booring snozefest of philosophical ramblings.

Atlas Shrugged- some people love it as a philosophical novel, but as dystopian SF novel, it's just boring.
I agree here. Though Space: Above and Beyond ultimately had too complex of a story, and I think it lost people. Esp those that just wanted the romance aspect. The Android's eyes were memorable.

Dune, yeah, esp about the later books, Honored Matres controlling men's minds with sex was bleh. Kind of taints the earlier books too, in that it seems to have been a theme all along, even if not as obvious.

Rand's hyper individualism is easy to poke holes in, we are only individuals in contrast to the group, because if not, what are we? Ted Kazinsky? Living isolated in a shack somewhere has limited allure.
