Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

Jeremy Crawford is leaving Wizards of the Coast later this month. Screen Rant (via me!) had the exclusive announcement. Crawford was the Game Director for Dungeons & Dragons and was one of the guiding forces for D&D over the past decade. In the past year, Crawford has focused on the core rulebooks and leading the team of rules designers. He has also been a face of Dungeons & Dragons for much of 5th Edition, appearing in many promotional videos and DMing Acquisitions Incorporated Actual Play series.

He joins Chris Perkins in leaving the D&D team in recent weeks. Perkins, who was the Creative Director for D&D, announced his retirement last week. Both Perkins and Crawford appear to have left Wizards on their terms, with Lanzillo very effusive with her praise of both men and their contribution in our interview.

On a personal note, I've enjoyed interviewing Jeremy over the years. He was always gracious with his time and answers and is one of the most eloquent people I've ever heard talk about D&D. I'll miss both him and Chris Perkins and look forward to their next steps, wherever that might be.

I don't think WOTC would throw half a years profit into an unproved VTT system if they don't also have MTG making 10 times that money.
It's also that the execs do not understand the hobby. The Hasbro not WOTC execs thought project Sigil was a video game like Baldurs Gate.

Let's thing about Sigil for a moment. It was going to require some serious specs. Not only does every one of your players need a copy they need a machine that could run it. College laptops aren't going to run it. You need gaming ware.

Even if the CEO understands the difference the execs on the board have no idea what the difference between a VTT and a Video Game is.

As posted most of the releases post Tasha's. Pandelver and below is a remake made bland compared to the OG Lost mines with a half baked add on extension that railroads players into a wierd mindflayer thing that struggles to resolve the plot.
Monsters of the multiverse is little more than Volo's and Tome of Foes stripped of lore and made into a single book.
Vecna, well anything at that level of play is hard, but they knew the limits of the system when they saddled that horse.
I can go on if you'd like.
Lol none of those books are bland.
It is a well known and long standing turn of phrase, I did not call them rats. Maybe look the term up, it is in quotes for a reason.
A well known turn of phrase that strongly implies cowardice and/or disloyalty. Using it here also implies dishonesty, specifically wrt their reasons for leaving and how they feel about the game they wrote.

It’s gross and very obviously biased by your dislike.

That is not how most people see the phrase, nor is it how I intended it to be taken, but your free to take it how you want and disregard the normal usage to fit your needs. Have a nice day.

Yeah man. Heroforge is free. Lots of users use it for free.

But then they release kitbashing which is awesome. You need to subscribe for that really good feature.

Many users are mad that's not a free feature because it's so convenient.

Well yeah. You still have full functionality as provided before but now you have to PAY for this feature.
I use hero forge for fun. Then again I have also given gift cards for birthdays from them…

In their case free playtime led to me spending over 100 bucks…

Crawford and Perkins are leaving the right time.

I fear the TTRPG and Wargame industries going to real big hits as freeloaders desire cheaper or free stuff as materials become more expensive and harder to sell.

I mean I get it. This is though a very common metaphor used in daily and professional parlance. If i tell you to "go jump in a lake" it's not because I think you need to get wet.
Sure, and if someone refers to someone leaving an organization by saying they are “rats fleeing a sinking ship”, they are implying negative qualities of both the person and the organization.

Being a common phrase doesn’t make it not a crappy way to refer to people. 🤷‍♂️

Frequency of use doesn’t change the nature of the saying from negative to neutral. Especially when someone is saying that it is that rather than a different more neutral/benign dynamic, as in the post I replied to.

There is no reason whatsoever to pretend that the comment in question was anything but a gross dig at both wotc, and Chris and Jeremy.

To me they are.
Ya know, most people when they are loud and insistent and repetitive about their opinion, have the good sense to actually have some kind of argument or reasoning behind the opinion when it gets challenged.

It is the normal usage. It is the only remotely common usage when someone says that someone leaving an organization isn’t for ye stated reasons, but instead “rats fleeing a sinking ship”.

No one says that phrase without at least a little disdain for the “rats”, but especially not when using the phrase to indicate that the stated reasons for leaving an organization aren’t as benign as has been indicated previously.

I do it blame the freeloading mentality that much. It has been part of the culture for many years. The DM buys the content and sometimes the group chips in a few bucks.

At the end of the day, this is the culture that arose around the game. A player does not need much mater and only 1 in 5 players become a DM.

It would be nice to see a change; however, I doubt it will happen.

I even keep extra PHs on hand in case players cannot afford one. Even PH sales may be majority DMs.
