What Show Should Have Only Had One Season?

So an interesting segway on this thread are shows with horrible endings. Not meh endings, not "eh not my favorite", but "this show is now ash in my mouth" kind of endings.

Its an interesting question of if you had a great 1st season and the next several seasons were solid, but then the ending was god aweful, would it have been worth cutting out all of those other seasons just to have a 1 and done without the bad ending?

None quite that bad spring to mind (they may later), but what about shows that managed a perfectly good ending, but then got renewed and pretty much wasted them. I remember Elementary wrapping up really well in season 6, but then getting a seventh season.

In general, no.

In the case of How I Met Your Mother, yes.

As another Dexter-head I would 100% agree with this - S4 is absolute peak Dexter, and S1, S2, and S5 are very good. After that the show becomes at lot less compelling (S3 is also only "good" imho). It's still watchable for the most part.


I don't know if you watched it at the time, but the cultural stance S2 took, and its timing, was, frankly, incredibly brave in a way TV series generally aren't today.

So I feel like S2 was, in context, more important, bolder, and ballsier than S1 by some margin.

Think we are mostly agreed about Dexter. I enjoyed the rewatch. The meh seasons aren't that bad but yeah not as good. Last one was rough.

I think that's fair. It's the most consistent of the 3 big fantasy shows.

HotD has turned in the best season, WoT most consistent, RoP most improved.

Really? Everyone I know who watched S2 of RoP said it was way, way worse than S1. I haven't watched S2 on that basis.
