Benny is amazed that there are survivors. "I'm glad you made it! We came here for components to fight the zombies. Do you have holy water? We'd need a lot of that!"

OOC: Sorry, mia yesterday. Back into it. @TaranTheWanderer, Max can't turn invisible, fyi.
@Kobold Stew, great catch for the trap door!

HOLY HAMMER

Caer grimly surveys the situation around him. He is in the corner, with a tangled mass of viscera, metal, and dark power bearing down on him, and he had allowed it to solidly connect after being caught off-balance. Still, he maintained his dark fixation on the shambling mound of meat and raised the Blackstaff and with his full might swung the Blackstaff down on it, feeling at least some small satisfaction as it connected with a satisfying thwump.

OOC:
ConSave: 1D20+2 = [18]+2 = 20

Concentration maintained (HM)

Swing: 1D20+5 = [13]+5 = 18

Damage: 1D8+5 = [3]+5 = 8
1D6 = [5] = 5

13 damage + DC13 save to avoid prone

Combat Round 3 over.

Start Combat round 4:
Zombie 1 : HP: 0 ;AC 8
Zombie 2: HP: 5 ;AC 8

Carson: HP: 37; AC: 13

As Stratus and Havoc run up the stairs, they can see the gruesome remains of bodies but they can hear fighting around the corner. They move in to engage.

In the dining room Caer lays a huge hit on the monster but it seems unfazed and unleashes a huge swing which misses Caer

The Mystic Emporium

It takes a bit of time to explain the scope of the issue.

"You're a little young to be hunting zombies, don't you think?" she says with some seriousness.

"I'd rather just stay here than go to the Pudgy Pig. It's safe as long as we're quiet. If we are going to leave, I'd rather we go to the Temple with you.

And no, I don't sell holy water. There's a potion shop that has invites clergy to make holy water.

I can help you with a few things like spell components and scrolls"

She takes a key from her pocket and walks to the locked door and unlocks it. Opening the door, she says,

"Help yourself."

The room is full of expensive spell components.

You may help yourself. There is 500gp total worth of spell components in the closet. No need to list exactly what it is.

Example: spell components: 200gp

If you need a 100gp pearl, just mark off the 100 gp. If you need a find familiar, mark off 10gp.

She does not open the cabinet But She gives you the scrolls: these are magic items that anyone can use once.

If you want a spell components pouch, she can make one up for you in just a few minutes.

"Your generosity is appreciated," he says, taking two of the dried grasshoppers he sees in the open case and tucking them in separate pockets. He will leave it to others to take the donation. "I truly feel that there is safety in numbers, and you would be better at the tavern. A bookcase had fallen on the trapdoor here -- something like that could leave you vulnerable," he warns with compassion in his voice. "But the choice is yours. If you stay... Here. Take these bricks. Each of them should be enough food for you for a day. If you do stay, I will do what I can to make it back to you."

He takes off his backpack and removes eight of the ten days' rations, and gives it to them. Small payment for the kindness she is showing. If they want, he;ll even replace the bookcase.

Stratus burst into the room and lunged at the creature looming over Caer. The big paladin held his lingsword in two hands and plunged it deep into the thing's torso.

OOC: He hi AC 20 for 10 damage. Oooh I so badly want to Smite, but we gotta be conservative!

Mystic Emporium
The younger woman was mostly keeping the young teenager - she was about twelve - busy while the rest spoke.

"Trudy" was the name of the Mystic Emporium's shop and she had found a small cloth bag and filled it with grasshoppers.

"They're best if you eat them when you cast the spell" she said as she handed the pouch to Anson.

"We're just fortunate that whatever magical curse hit the land was stopped by the protections on this place. I inherited the store from my father many, many years ago - before any of you were born - and he was a talented mage. I do know that risking everyone's life to go back to the Inn just to have to go all the way back to the temple is a waste. If the beacon gets lit, then the undead should retreat into the darker places. Then we can hunt them down during the day and clear out the town. "

She pauses for a moment and peaks outside the window - she had shuttered closed the big display window at the front.

"I just...I know everyone in this town...I can't believe this happened." it looks like she might break down but then regains her composure.

"Kyuss is the god of the undead. It is his cult's end goals to turn the whole world into the unliving - they think the living is a lesser form of being. The beacon might be the only thing holding back the darkness. It's almost night. I'm worried about what may happen after sundown."

Before you leave, she turns to Benny,

"And young man, Sphinx are wise indeed but be careful what they promise you. Creatures like these have their own agenda and will take advantage of you. I can see it's already putting you in more danger than any ten year old deserves."

When you're ready to leave, she says,

"I wish I had a good spell to cast on you - like mass invisibility or something, but I don't. I can only give you what I have and wish you luck. Be careful."

She looks like Ms. Mcgonnigal(sp?) from Harry Potter
OOC chat: please let me know if you grab any valuable spell components and how many you take. I'm going to start a treasure thread or start tracking in the RG thread in the OP
And who is taking which scrolls.

The boy readily goes through the spell components, he grabs many, and accepts the offer to prepare a spell component pouch, asking if she can prepare a few of them, just in case. He also grabs arcane focuses if there are any.

Upon the lady's comment, Benny seems confused. He looks at the cat, that doesn't appear to be annoyed and says "Max has been good to me. Since he's been in my life, I haven't gone a night without food in my belly. He also protects me. I think I'm the one taking advantage of him".

Before leaving, he asks exactly where the potion shop is.

She tells you that, if you come back safe and light the beacon, she will give you an arcane focus. She seems reticent to open the cabinet
Benny notices her reluctance to open the cabinet, and his street smarts kick in "You know, there are a lot of zombies out there, and we're the only ones going to light the beacon. It's the city's, and the survivor's, only chance to survive. If you have anything that can help us, I recommend you bring it forward. We can return them after."
