Thinking back, I can’t remember a moment where Clark changes into Superman.
It’s possible I just dont recall it, it was a pretty busy film. Not that it has to have that, just interesting to leave out something that iconic.

Just got back from the theater; haven't read the thread yet.

I and my family -- who were a bit skeptical, but going along for the ride with me -- all really liked it.

I thought it got Superman's sense of morality and justice right and liked that Gunn and company have clearly seen Man of Steel, The Boys and Invincible and have answers to their POV coded into the movie: You can choose to be a good person, no matter how strong or weak you might be. (Malik, the food cart guy, may be the bravest character in any superhero movie.)

The film also does a good job laying track for future movies -- the Hall of Justice exists, but is still under construction and the future Justice League doesn't even have a formal name yet, although Maxwell Lord is already bankrolling them; Lex is headed to Belle Reve, where he's sure to make contact with people we'd rather he not; the Engineer is still running around loose with a moral compass different than Superman's, making her ripe to form the Authority; we see Stagg Industries and a bunch of other DC Universe references to be potentially picked up later; and Gen. Flagg certainly has some thoughts about all of this, given what happened to his son in The Suicide Squad.

I can certainly see why certain corners of the internet are triggered by this, but if you're triggered by Star Wars and Captain America and Superman, I think the universe is probably telling you something important.

Definitely looking forward to Supergirl and future movies and TV shows in this franchise.

Not only that, but he's concerned about falling into a black hole because he would never be able to escape. Notably, he doesn't seem to think falling into a black hole would be fatal. Just something he'd never be able to escape.

I thought it was interesting that Ron Troupe -- who didn't have any lines that I caught in the theatrical version of this film -- was one of the Planet staff that got into Mr. Terrific's flying saucer at the end. I suspect they plan to do a lot more with the Planet staff in future, which is great news, since they assembled a good cast playing an all-star mix of Planet staffers.

I thought it was interesting that Ron Troupe -- who didn't have any lines that I caught in the theatrical version of this film -- was one of the Planet staff that got into Mr. Terrific's flying saucer at the end. I suspect they plan to do a lot more with the Planet staff in future, which is great news, since they assembled a good cast playing an all-star mix of Planet staffers.

Honestly would love a show with just the Planet as the focus and Superman in the background. Clark is around, but it's more about Jimmy, Lois, and everyone else.

One thing stuck out to me in particular, and maybe I am the only person bothered by this, but...wow, what an about-face regarding Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van! For all the people who feel Man of Steel did Pa Kent dirty, this was much, much worse...and I am not sure how it added to the plot!

It's James Gunn explicitly responding to Man of Steel, The Boys and Invincible: OK, yes, Superman could rule the planet if he wanted to, but being an evil dictator is not an inevitable outcome of having power. You can make the choice to be a moral person, as Clark does.

I'm guessing the Engineer shows up in the Supergirl film. She was last seen seemingly dead or passed out, iirc. I kind of hope she has a redemption arc, as she had glimmers of humanity.

I suspect she's going to be the person who assembles The Authority, now that it's clear that the US government "just doesn't get it" regarding the metahuman threat.

I liked Krypto overall, he was juuuuust about to overstay his welcome but I think he was limited enough that it worked.

Krypto was definitely Chekov's Misbehaving Dog. Just as with Ultraman wearing Chekov's Mask, I realized either they had seriously messed up part of the script or they were setting them both up for later, which was the real answer. We probably could have trimmed at least 30 seconds of crazy Krypto, though.

Lois was also rock solid, perfect rendition.

For people who haven't seen it, she's fantastic -- and very Lois -- in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The show eventually has diminishing returns, but the first season is excellent.

5) As much as this movie goes out of its way to showcase Superman's love of life (we even see him save a squirrel!), his killing of Ultraman is really cold...literally no reaction. That was a big tonal miss in another pitch perfect rendition of Superman's character.

It does feel like we needed a few more seconds of reaction from him. That said, I think we're going to see Ultraman/Bizarro return from the black hole/other dimension one of these days.
