I don't think there should be another class - I think D&D already has redundant classes, and I'm not seeing anything that is particularly conceptually distinct and couldn't be covered by a subclass. I definitely don't want to see psion or warlord (in particular, I think warlord is a problematic concept for a cooperative game).
I'm pretty much in agreement with the esteemed, Dr. Clint_L. I'm not opposed to new classes, but I don't feel as though all the classes currently available are equal and introducing new classes will likely just exacerbate the problem.

That's also a big reason why it was so polarizing. A lot of players have a "don't play my character" rule, even in situations that are benevolent. So the warlord would have to trend a fine line between consent and ability. Simply put, a warlord better have a way to attack that doesn't rely on his allies doing it for him.

This.

I played a fame once and one of the players didn't like me using the bless spell.

One problem playing with Randoms.

Playing an order cleric the rogue liked the attack granting but another layer was a bit miffed due to "mind control" and not granting him an extra attack.

Silvery Barbs+ order cleric just saying.

They had a problem with bless? A magical buff? Well hell, tell them they're not allowed to use magic weapons then!

EDIT: "The sword is taking control of my character, making me fight better!"

"Dude, it's a +1 long sword, not Stormbringer, Blackrazor, or Ebonblade, yeesh!"

More the "you're blessed now you can roll an extra d4".

The group blew up no surprise. I wasn't there when it happened.

Playing with Randoms I'll ask now before I buff them or attack granting.

And do attack granting even if its not the most efficient. Eg not rogue 100%.

Espicially both. Bless rogue now you get an attack.

You can't design around people intentionally being problem players. So it shouldn't be a design concern.

And yet, there are zero complaints about the Battlemaster doing exactly the same thing. Or the Mastermind Rogue. We have a Trickery Domain cleric in our group that gives a skill buff as a blessing. No one has ever complained about that. "Don't you dare give me a big buff to my stealth checks!"

I don't think it's maybe quite as polarizing as all that. I think that the bigger issues - that it was the poster whipping boy for 4e - is the big tripping point.

Honestly, this has always struck me as being a little weird. If I ask a melee character's player if they'd like to make another attack, I can't imagine them saying "no, please don't, because I feel like a puppet and you're pulling my strings".

Especially classes that have 1/turn limitations on damage boosts like the Paladin or the Rogue!
I agree especially when the guidance spell gets spammed

whats the different between heres "+1d4 guidance" and here "use My reaction to make another attack"

What does a paladin even do except be a fighter that casts a few divine spells? I don't see what niche the paladin fills.
heals themselves and party members.
immune to fear
provides an insane buff to saves
massive buff spells
big smites
detection of certain foes
celestial horse for exploration

I get your perspective, but the paladin is the wrong class to pick.... its just stacked in 5e.
