D&D General Cook - Artificer Subclass

Eubani

Legend
I have created a subclass for my home game for a Halfling Artificer Cook. This is mostly for fun and flavor not power, obviously a support type subclass. Please peruse and comment at your leisure.

Cook– Artificer Subclass

Subclass Spells
Level Spells
3 Purify Food and Drink, Bless
5 Heat Metal, Aid
9 Create Food and Water, Hypnotic Pattern
13 Charm Monster, Aura of Purity
17 Greater Restoration, Animate Objects

LEVEL3: Adventuring Cook
Gain the Produce Flame and Poison Spray cantrips, these do not count against the limit of known cantrips.

You are proficient in Cooking Utensils, if you are already proficient you add twice your proficiency to any tests. You can use cooking utensils as an arcane focus and add your Int modifier to any Ability Test involving cooking utensils, food preparation and culinary knowledge.

Level3: Snack Time
When you finish a short or long rest you can make a number of snacks equal to your proficiency bonus. Snacks made do not need to be of the same flavor (see below). These snacks can be given to other people and can be consumed as a bonus action. These snacks stay fresh until you finish a long rest, after which they are still edible, but no longer bestow any benefits.

Choose the flavor of the snacks from the options below.
• Spicy: Until the end of your turn, when you hit with a melee or ranged attack, you have +1d6 to damage rolls. This increases to +1d8 @ Level 11, +1d10 @ Level 17.
• Sweet: Until the start of your next turn, gain a +1bonus to AC.
• Salty: Until the start of your next turn, when a creature hits you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature.

Level3: Special Sauce
Intelligence modifier times per a Long Rest, you can cast either the Lesser Restoration or Aid Spell without using a spell slot or material components except for the special sauce itself.

Level5: Well Fed
Anyone eating any food prepared by the character gains one of the following effects:
  • Artificer Level + Intelligence modifier Temporary Hit Points
  • +10ft Movement for 1 min
  • Advantage on the next D20 Test within 10 minutes

  • Also after having eaten any food prepared by your character as part of a short or Long Rest remove one exhaustion level.
Level9: Growing Cookbook
When you use the Snack Time feature, you can also choose from the following additional flavors:
• Sour:Until the start of your next turn you have resistance to all damage.
• Umami:You can teleport to an unoccupied space that you can see within 30feet.

If someone eats food created from a spell such as goodberry or create food and water that you cast, they will also have Advantage on D20Tests until the start of their next turn.

Level15: Full Course Meal
Once per a Long rest your character can cast Heroe'sFeast without expending a spell slot or Material components. Thecasting time is reduced to 1 minute.

I'd replace Poison Spray with Bonfire, myself thought that may become too reliant on fire. Maybe an option of Bonfire instead of Produce Flame?

Also, might consider giving the character a "walking cauldron"/pot bellied stove homonculous, with infusion options to improve it. "Boiling them in oil" I could see as an attack option, ability to brew potions (chicken soup = cure wounds comes to mind) during short/long rests and similiar support effects.

Overall, this seems like it would be a bard/support build that uses cooking instead of music. Extra effects that remove conditions or provide bonuses to other party members would certainly be fitting.

Good list

Fine, mostly ribbon

Level3: Snack Time

These snacks can be given to other people and can be consumed as a bonus action. I would bump sweet to +2. That would balance with the other two options better.

Level3: Special Sauce
Intelligence modifier times per a Long Rest, you can cast either the Lesser Restoration or Aid Spell without using a spell slot or material components except for the special sauce itself.

Seems like a lot of abilities for level 3. I'd make it can cast each spell once without a spell slot of components, but bump it to a higher level.

Movement boost should be 10 minutes. to match advantage. You might also consider adding the below goodberry and heroes feast language here, so any food prepared or created by you (including goodberry or heroes feast spell or similar magically created food, but not water or food merely purified by you).

This is a tad weak for 9th level. Maybe add special sauce here too, or an additional two spells for use with special sauce?

Level15: Full Course Meal
Once per a Long rest your character can cast Heroe'sFeast without expending a spell slot or Material components. Thecasting time is reduced to 1 minute.

Needs to be more here. This is a capstone. It already lasts 24 hours so the reduced casting time realistically is mostly a ribbon feature. The material component is nice but at this level not as important. It's really just a bonus 6th level spell, which isn't a bad thing but not enough for a capstone feature. I'd probably boost Snack Time again, and maybe also Well Fed.
