Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

Now that we have had some time to let the box office settle, the consensus seems to be that Superman was NOT a box office hit. Ultimately it lost money once all the expenses were tallied up.

But its an interesting debate, there are a lot of notes around merchandising, streaming numbers, etc etc. So it might make bank when you factor all of that in, but its clearly not the cut and dry box office blowout anyone would hope for.

I'm not surprised. Despite my training in cinematography, I'm a good public during the screening, I analyse the movie the day after. The movie didn't trigger much of anything during viewing and I didn't find anything interesting to digest afterwards. A weak entry on both counts.

While it's looking like Superman maybe didn't do as well financially as it first seemed, it's a great Superman movie ino my opinion. Superman and Lois feel like who they should be. It's a fun movie and captures the essence of Superman's innate character. A Superman who rescues squirrels, dog sits his cousin's "very bad boy" and is kind and approachable is an excellent portrayal. The movie is fun and silly but has heart. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie and it is by far my favourite Superman to date.

Don't know if you watched Superman & Lois, but I will say that surprisingly, it's my favorite rendition bar none. If you haven't seen it, I'd suggest giving it a try. It has all of that and more, as it has a lived in Superman to a larger extent. It's one of the things that I liked about this rendition - it felt lived in. If I hadn't seen Superman & Lois, it might have hit closer to the mark for me. But that one already did it, and better, IMO.

James Gunn already said it didn't have to be, so there's that.

No, I haven't seen it but I have heard good things. I should definitely track it down. Thanks for reminding me about the series!

Note that the second season is the weakest season, but it's definitely still good- just weaker than the others with some weak storylines. And its one of the few series that landed the plan with grace, and I really loved the send off.
