The Table of Contents for both Heroes of Faerun and Adventures in Faerun.

Picked the books up this morning and love what I’ve seen so far. I’ll answer whatever questions I can here.

I remember Szass rendered a good chunk of Thay into wasteland as a part of a plan in 4e.
No, the plan was to rewrite all of existence into a new one where he ruled as the sole god.

His first attempt at that plan turned a good chunk of Thay into a wasteland when someone else hijacked the ritual, got killed, and the resulting ritual failure caused the Dread Rings he'd raised across Thay to facilitate it exploded.

Which provides a great plot hook since he now needs to build Dread Rings in new places since Thay no longer has the potential for the ritual.

I think there was a brief reference to events in Thay somewhere in SCAG, but I’m not in position to look it up at the moment.
From SCAG:

"For a time, living mages couldn't hope to advance to prominence in Thay: Szass Tam promoted undeath as a means of existence with boundless possibilities, and held back those who didn't agree with this philosophy. The recent battles with the demon Eltab, however, have prompted Szass Tam to loosen this stricture"

Perhaps the mentioned battles tie in?

How much of Thay died in those things? The Forgotten Realms wiki doesn't give enough details.
