General video game discussion

Came back to this because I remembered one comment I had that did not relate to the publisher/designer:
I hesitate to ask, but what was up with the publisher? Is it Stardock? I recall them being involved in a stoush with the Star Control guys, which didn’t impress me much. But I’m not sure if there’s any other dirt on them.

I am finally going to put down Warhammer III for a bit, like, a couple of weeks or so. I did pretty much everything I wanted to for the time being in the Souls camapign and after over 500 hours I think it is finally time to turn to Immortal Empires. I took a small peek at it and I will say I like that they seemed to update races with some new things and things to do in between games.

It may be a longer break depending on in any long awaited updates come out soon. I want to try to get back into Terraria when the update comes out, and hopefully we are finally going to see Episode 5 of The Long Dark's Wintermute story before the end of the year.

From the 1st to the 12th of this month Monsters and Memories did their longest open beta test so far. It's an old-school inspired MMO that borrows heavily from games like EverQuest. I hopped on for the second week and played a Gnome Elementalist up to level 5.

It's... Okay... I think it's shown me that my love for EverQuest and what keeps me logging a few hours a month on Project Quarm is more nostalgia than an actual enjoyment of the game. I think I may have also just gotten tired of MMOs. Grinding for the sake of grinding just doesn't do it for me anymore, especially in a game like this where it's very directionless. In modern MMOs you at least get the quest of "Go kill 10 spiders because of insert story hook here" and you have some sort of progression to watch. This is, much like Classic EQ, "I'm killing 48 spiders because that's how much experience I need to level up. Aw crud, I'm out of spiders, I guess I can kill these rats, but they're lower level so they're worth less xp."

A lot of people are really loving it though, so I'm happy for them. I may check out a future beta.. Supposedly they're putting in an underdark type zone and adding Deep-Elves/Gnomes/Dwarves.
