New "Stargate" series announced

It is surprising because it is very RPGish, a party of PC's going through a stargate.
I'm not sure "RPGish" is a draw for me for anything other than an RPG. I like playing RPGs. I like eating cake, but I don't watch the Great British Bake Off. I think I look for something different in my sci-fi watching than in my gaming. :)

I think if I were interested I would have watched something by now. The weird thing is I don't know why I'm not interested. I like sci-fi, after all--more than I like fantasy! I watch Star Trek, Doctor Who, Foundation, Alien: Earth, Star Wars, the lot. But weirdly, Stargate has just been a big hole in my sci-fi.

Its more chatacter and metaplot driven than say Trek. 4 main characters plus supporting ones.

More DS9 vs TNG. Generally avoids the dire season 1/2 "curse" of trek.

Sci-fi is pretty varied, such as on the Traveller discord, there talk of comparing Traveller to Star Wars, and most of us are like yeah ... no. Traveller is low powered gritty space adventure, not really high flying space opera.

Traveller is Firefly. In fact, Firefly was based on a Traveller game.

It's very close, though River Tam would take some intervention by the ref to build, I wouldn't deceive anyone to think she'd be possible out the gate.
No, I mean it was literally based on Joss Whedon's Traveller campaign. Obviously he took poetic license when he made the TV show--he was replicating the campaign setting, not the game rules.

I'm interested! I want to start the whole series again including all offshoots (we really enjoyed Atlantis), so now might be a good time to start.
In Canada the CTV SciFi Channel runs several episodes of Stargate: SG1 every weekday. I've lost count of the number of times that they've run through the entire series now. Occasionally they'll switch to Stargate: Atlantis, but it's been quite a while since they last did that. They were running Stargate:Universe on weekends, a few years back, but not recently.

I just have to see if any streaming services here in Oz have it. I've just canned one sub and don't really want another but would sub for a month or two to watch SG. Would involve some serious bingeing haha

Yes, I am just noting to someone who reads this that making River Tam by the rules is pretty much impossible, like the battle with Reavers in Serenity, she would bite it. Otherwise, 100% Trav, you are right.
