They’re likely to get it anyway with War Caster a feat specially designed for spellcasters in combat. If you start giving feat abilities as class abilities all the time then what’s the point of the feat.

Otherwise don’t use a shield as an eldritch knight.

RAW they cant use two handed weapons either. People tend to allow it based on a tweet iirc. Or you cant make AoO with it of you do.

Its a headache RAW most DMs dont seem to care or even be aware of the rules.

Sure, not if they attack the same round. But they get magic instead. No sympathy. take Warcaster at 4 if it’s a problem. Nice little boost then.

Warcaster doesn't boost physical stats though. You need warcaster and arcane focus.
As I said its just a headache. You can get around it with enough effort and odd builds.

I would think most spells an Eldritch Onight would cast in combat don’t have Material
Components. Or at least there are enough that the EL shouldn’t suffer.
