D&D 5E (2024) Homunculus Servant, Conjure Constructs, Deryan's Helpful Homunculi have class restrictions that make no sense

Homunculus Servant, Conjure Constructs, Deryan's Helpful Homunculi have class restrictions that make no sense.

First off Homunculus Servant should be an option for Wizards, secondly Conjure Constructs should be castable by Artificers, and Deryan's Helpful Homunculi should be castable by Artificers and Rangers, why Rangers, because the spell is named after a Ranger (instead of a Cleric or Wizard, its like they picked a name at random).

“Bold” of you to say so.

I could see them not including Artificers when Eberron: Forge of the Artificer was yet to be released, perhaps? But the other restrictions I agree are odd.

Deryan is a Ranger? I had no idea

I'm houseruling each of these per your recommendations.
My vision for the Ranger Helpful Homunculi is setting up a camp or traps

The Ranger version me its like a doll or idol made from wicker and bone and fur, with little natural ingredients like berries, pinecones, blood, very more more nature worship looking. Or maybe if your a Winter Walker Ranger from Icewind Dale, you carve your little buddy out of the Bone/ivory of a Knucklehead Trout.

This is not the character the spell is referencing. It’s referencing Deryan Kaya, the Artificer from the Calimshan section of the Adventures in Faerun book.
Picture caption: "DERYAN KAYA SUMONS A HORDE OF CONSTRUCTS TO FIGHT OFF A BLUE DRAGON"

Book text: Artificers can cast neither the Conjure Constructs spell (which is the one which would summon a "horde" of constructs), nor the Deryan's Helpful Homunculi spell named after the Artificer in the picture. Nice attention to detail there WotC

It's obvious that the reason wizards don't normally have a homunculus (although rules by which wizards can construct one have appeared in D&D in the past) is because they have familiars. And in lore (D&D and otherwise) that is the difference between a homunculus and a familiar: a homunculus is grown in a lab, whereas a familiar is an evil spirit in animal form sent by the Devil - and hence should really be a warlock only thing.
