Making a statement that too advanced of civilizations constantly kill itself off is certainly a viable take in fiction.
To paraphrase Tolkien, People domt need stories to tell them that dragons exist. we need them to tell us that dragons can be defeated.
I will always push for stories where the protagonists are genuinely capable of making the world better. Esp in D&D.
