Thread block

Wait - does that mean that if they create a new thread to talk about the same subject as a thread from which they were blocked, and those threads become merged, then they will become blocked again?
I have not tried it, but I assume that is what would happen. Though the only way to really know is to try it.

OK, how about this:

Whenever threads get merged (which isn't that often, right?) can you - or does Xenforo let you - somehow change the listed author of the first post to a 'shell' or dummy username with mod privileges (i.e. cannot block or be blocked), in order to avoid this problem?

For example, if I start a thread titled (+) Cavaliers in 1e and then someone else starts the same thread because they've heard about (but can't see) mine, when you merge them you'd also change the OP to show as coming from user "ENWorldGeneric" rather than "Lanefan". As nobody would be able to block the ENWorldGeneric account, everyone could then see the merged thread.

You’re assuming that I’m bothered by the current setup and am seeking a solution. I am not, and I hope I have not said anything to give that impression. If so, I apologise. Don’t mistake this for a public consultation on how to help me fix a problem. As I said earlier, I have nothing to add to the previous billion times we had this exact conversation. I made the mistake of responding and that may have given an incorrect impression. Sorry! :)

If two-way blocking was turned off here, the problem would go away. Not sure vBulletin would be any different in this respect (although perhaps it simply doesn't allow two-way blocking in the first place).
I've never understood why it was important that someone you've blocked not see your posts not be able to see yours, even if they can't make any response you can see. Blocking in general makes sense to me (even if I never do it). Two-way blocking doesn't.

I can understand why some people want two-way blocking, I just think it's very disruptive and a bad idea completely at odds with how forums should work. But, as per my original post in this thread and as Morrus has confirmed, the powers that be clearly have a different opinion.

Personally, I have never blocked anyone on any forum. I've been sorely tempted on here at one point, in that case because I was worried how the other party would be affected by my responses. In the end, I just made the effort to not make those responses.
