Highly-Anticipated Star Wars Movie Becomes Disney+ Show — Report

Highly-Anticipated Star Wars Movie Becomes Disney+ Show — Report https://share.google/W1UGVczWaWcxFWWhD

It is believed that Dave Filoni is working on Heir to the Empire as a movie, or possibly a limited series. This article has Filoni talking about the project bringing characters from the various shows together. It wouldn't be HotE if the story focuses on these characters. I suppose it could be the backdrop for the story. It could also clash with the sequel movies if they have Leia pregnant with the twins. What do you think? Can he bring the story to life and still maintain continuity with what has been filmed already; Rebels, Ahsoka, the sequels?

I would not be able to tell much of a difference. I'm more a casual fan and have not seen everything and know all the cannon. I see where they taken the superheroes from the 60 and merged them with todays heroes and they are fine. Change the origin story a bit and you are good.

First off, this is a report from Superherohype.com, so we should not take it terribly seriously. All they do is quote various "leakers", all of whom have spotty records. In this case it's DanielRPK, who has spectacularly wrong on many, many occasions. If you're very generous, he's right more often than he's wrong, but that's not a lot to hang your hat on, especially as most of the "leaks" he's been "right" on were leaked or even confirmed by a lot of people before he even "leaked" them.

Second off, it won't be Heir to the Empire like the book series, it will be it's own thing.

Period.

Disney de-canonized that novel series in 2014. And there's no way they're going to involve Luke, Leia, and Han heavily as those books do. If at all. They literally can't do that because they've already got different canon via Rebels, Ahsoka, the Sequel Trilogy, and so on. Including extensive canon books involving Thrawn.

Filoni's own favourite character, Ahsoka, is already basically taking over the Luke-type role in the post-RotJ set stuff - like, Ahsoka S1 was set 4 years after RotJ. And she's presented in opposition to Thrawn particularly, as it is Ezra.

So what would we actually be looking at if not Heir to the Empire per se? Some kind of "Thrawn tries to take over the galaxy" show, basically, likely with Ahsoka and/or Ezra as the main people trying to stop him. Probably Ahsoka S3 onwards basically.

Personally, I am unexcited. Filoni's take on Thrawn was good as an animated character, but completely uncompelling and unimpressive in live action. Whether that's due to Filoni's showrunning, or the actor being better suited to voice acting or w/e, I have no idea, but I don't think this show will be particularly successful without recasting Thrawn and preferably taking Filoni out of the showrunner's seat. He has yet to make a live action show that isn't deeply mediocre. Even the ones that started well rapidly sank to that level.

I agree it couldn't possibly be HtoE, but disagree about Filoni. I'm quite pleased with all his SW work, to varying degrees. Some of his shows are my favorites in the whole franchise, certainly better than all the newer films (except Rogue One) IMO.

Yes. Loved them both.

Solo was a much better Star Wars film than it gets credit for, coming in the wake of the (IMO justified) backlash to The Last Jedi. It did not perform for Disney the same way D&D:HAT did not perform. That is, it did fine for a fun mid tier heist movie, but expectations were too high.
Solo was, like, 3 movies squashed into one in order to hit all the important story beats in Han Solo's life because who knew if they were gonna get a sequel.

I get it. The source could be unreliable. I just thought it would be interesting to discuss the possibility of a HotE story on screen today. Have we missed our chance? Could new leadership at Lucasfilms change the direction of Star Wars or is it stuck?

I am on board with you. But Chewbacca and L3-37 would have to be background characters if it focused on Han and Lando. And we all know nobody puts Chewie in a corner. (I almost regretted it as soon as I thought it, but the line is too funny, so here you go. You're welcome.😛)
